Yorkshire put a tough couple of seasons behind them by gaining promotion back to the top tier of the County Championship and now they will be looking to kick on in red ball cricket and maybe even challenge for one of the white ball competitions now that they are back where they belong.

Strengths
Yorkshire might have timed their return to Division One perfectly because they look set to have Jonny Bairstow available for the whole summer and he, along with the likes of Dawid Malan and Adam Lyth should ensure that Yorkshire don’t lack for runs, particularly when Joe Root and Harry Brook are released by England to feature. With impressive youngsters like Finlay Bean and James Wharton, Yorkshire look in good order with the bat this season.

Weaknesses
You couldn’t say that the bowling is a weakness but there is a lack of depth to their attack and they would be looking at Ben Coad being fit for most of the season. They have got overseas players coming in and assisting in that department but they are entitled to take a month to build their way into the season which wouldn’t be ideal. The good thing for those bowlers is that conditions at Headingley usually offer assistance with the red ball.
Trophy Prospects
It is probably a season or two too soon for Yorkshire to be contenders in red ball cricket this season but there is no reason why they can’t have a go at one of the white ball competitions, especially if England are absolutely done with Jonny Bairstow now so that he is available for the entire Vitality Blast. Dawid Malan still has England quality and there are a couple of franchise players with the ball who could really help Yorkshire in the Blast.
England Duty
Yorkshire will be restricted in the amount that they see of Joe Root and Harry Brook this summer with the latter unlikely to be around much at all if he is given the white ball captaincy. It looks like England have moved on from Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan though. Ben Coad could be a sleeper for a Test call up if he has a decent summer especially now that he is playing red ball cricket in the top division.
Predicted Championship Finishing Position: 9th
