CPL 2017 – Barbados Tridents vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots Betting Preview

We have reached the final match of the Caribbean Premier League regular season. On Sunday evening the Barbados Tridents will host the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and after that just the play-offs will remain in the tournament.

St Kitts and Nevis know that they will definitely be in those play-offs but they don’t yet know whether they will be in the qualifier or the eliminator. Barbados Tridents will not be here beyond this game whatever happens here.

Barbados Tridents

The former champions picked up a confidence boost on Saturday night when they took care of the table topping Trinbago Knight Riders but they could not win by enough to keep their hopes of progressing alive. They will want to go out with a bit of a bang here which could make them dangerous.

After a season where they have struggled to put regular decent scores together with the bat they know where they need to improve going forward. One bright point for them has been that they generally haven’t bowled too badly over the course of the campaign but putting performances together has troubled them.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

St Kitts and Nevis were given a good hiding by Jamaica in their last match and that defeat means they know the equation for them is a simple one here. If they want two goes at making the final come the play-offs then they have to win this match. Anything else and they will be playing knockout cricket straight away.

There is enough experience and big game stars in the ranks of the Patriots to be able to handle the pressure of the next week or so but they would love to win this one. I say that not just because it would give them a couple of goes at getting to the final but nobody likes to play knockout cricket off the back of a defeat.

Team News

You would imagine Barbados Tridents would want to name the same side which won on Saturday night but that would depend on how well everyone recovers from the exertions of that match.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots may look to dump one of their seamers for the extra batsman in which case Ben Hilfenhaus or Sheldon Cottrell could make way after poor performances last time out. Brandon King would be the obvious man to be recalled.

Betting

As ever on a weekend in the Caribbean Premier League we have a side having to back up a performance from the day before and as I repeatedly point out that is never easy. It might be even harder for the Barbados Tridents here given that they are now out of the tournament.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots will surely have their minds on the job. There is a huge reward for them if they can win this match and against a side low on motivation and heavy legged the Patriots will not get a better chance to secure second spot. I’ll take them to win this one.
