Knockout cricket begins at the Caribbean Premier League on Wednesday night when the Jamaica Tallawahs take on the Guyana Amazon Warriors. The winners will face the losers of Tuesday’s match in the second qualifier while the loser will be done for the season.
These two shared their meetings in the regular season with each winning at the other’s ground so their trilogy will be decided for the season in this contest.
Jamaica Tallawahs
The Tallawahs made it into this contest by coming third in the regular season. They had a chance to seal second place in the table but they were monumentally destroyed by the Guyana Amazon Warriors which condemned them to this match and now they face the same opposition to keep their season alive.
Jamaica have generally been a good side with the bat in this campaign and while their bowling attack has lots of variety it has just gone off the boil since Imad Wasim was force to leave. That is very much a concern but they have had a few days now to take stock of where they are going wrong and put things right.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
It took an absolute age for the Amazon Warriors to come to the party this season but finally the penny dropped for them and now they head into the play-offs as the form side in the competition. That is a vast turnaround from their form at the beginning of the campaign which was as poor as it could be.
Guyana have now won their last four matches and the latest three have been by huge margins. They have won with 32 balls remaining, by 99 runs and with an enormous 57 balls in hand so they really are in fantastic form and will hope they have saved three more excellent performances. If they have don’t write them off.
Team News
It will be interesting to see what changes, if any, Jamaica Tallawahs make as they look to win three matches to defend their title. You would think someone will go after such a brutal beating last time out.
On the flip side of that it is hard to see Guyana doing anything different. They have found a formula that works for them and we should expect them to stick with it barring a late illness or injury.

Betting
I’m very surprised given the respective form of these two sides that the Guyana Amazon Warriors are the strong outsiders for this match. They go in here off the back of four wins in a row and they should have beaten the Jamaica Tallawahs twice in the regular season and were six inches from doing so.
You have to respect the Tallawahs as the defending champions but I’m a big believer in form heading into play-offs being a big thing and it is Guyana who have that. They have my financial backing in this one as well.
