The next match in the Caribbean Premier League will get plenty of attention as Chris Gayle goes home for the first time since leaving the Jamaican franchise. He takes his St Kitts and Nevis Patriots team to Sabina Park to meet the defending champions Jamaica Tallawahs in what should be a cracking Wednesday night contest.
This was always going to be a high profile occasion but the state of the league table makes that even more the case. One point separates St Kitts and Nevis in second and Jamaica in third and with matches running out that is huge.
Jamaica Tallawahs
The Tallawahs took a bit of a beating from the league leaders Trinbago Knight Riders in their last match and it will be interesting to see what that has done to their confidence. The thing I like about the Tallawahs is the experience they have in the side not least in the form of Kumar Sangakkara so I expect them to be fine.
The other thing that can’t be ignored in this Jamaica outfit is their bowling attack. They have excellent variety and mixtures of pace which can be tough for the opponents to get stuck into although that unit has struggled since arriving back at Sabina Park. The loss of Imad Wasim has not helped in that regard.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
The Patriots have something in common with their opponents in this match. That is that they too were well beaten by the Knight Riders last time out although that defeat was rain affected. That was a whole week ago so they have had a rare prolonged period to dress down what went wrong and put things right.
St Kitts and Nevis have a very solid bowling attack but after being brutalised by Brendon McCullum and Darren Bravo last week it will be interesting to see how their mind is going into this one. They do have the comfort of knowing if it does go wrong with the ball this is one of the best batting sides in the tournament.
Team News
Imad Wasim is now away with Pakistan so Mahmudallah is firmly in place. Jamaica are likely to name an unchanged line up unless there are any late injuries or illnesses which haven’t been disclosed.
St Kitts and Nevis may consider their bowling options in terms of the way they are utilised but no changes in personnel are expected heading into this match.

Betting
This should be a really good contest. The winners of it are highly likely to get two bites of the cherry when it comes to the play-offs so there is plenty at stake in this contest so it isn’t just about the return to Jamaica of Chris Gayle.
In terms of a bet I like the sixes here even though the line looks high at 17. In the two Sabina Park contests so far this season we have seen 21 and 23 sixes and when these two got together at Warner Park earlier in the competition they combined for 27 sixes. Both sides have hitters in their ranks and both bowling attacks have recently been carted and may lack confidence. I’ll take the overs here.
