CPL 2017 Qualifier 2 – Trinbago Knight Riders vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Betting Preview

The penultimate match of the 2017 Caribbean Premier League season is dubbed ‘Qualifier 2’ but in reality it is a knockout semi-final between the Trinbago Knight Riders and the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

The winners will progress to take on the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the final on Saturday night while the losers will be left to ponder and think to what might have been.

Trinbago Knight Riders

I am interested to see how the Knight Riders begin this match. They dominated the majority of the league phase of the tournament but they have now lost two matches on the trot with very concerning batting performances the catalyst for both defeats. That may see them come out edgy which would be a big worry.

Often in these tournaments it is not about who explodes out of the traps and dominated the league phase. It is usually about who hits form when the business end of the competition arrives and you would have to say that the Knight Riders do not carry too much momentum into this must-win contest.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Guyanese outfit are the exact opposite to their opponents in this match. They took a long while to get going in the competition this season but they must be given a lot of credit for the way they have turned things around. They used their spare time well, came up with a new formula and that has worked a treat.

The Warriors have now won their last five matches and in truth they have barely been threatened in any of them. The more the square at the Brian Lara Stadium dries up with the amount of cricket on it this week the more their attack is going to prosper so the Amazon Warriors should be feeling good about their chances.

Team News

Panicking is not the order of the day for the Trinbago Knight Riders but clearly something is not working with the bat. I wonder if they will go with the same side but try a different pinch hitter to Sunil Narine.

There would appear little chance of Guyana making any changes to their side unless they have someone who is struggling to play two matches in as many days. That is unlikely given their form though.

Betting

This match has got me thinking I must admit. Usually I would not go near a side who played the night before, as I have repeatedly mentioned over the last couple of months, but I just wonder if this is the time to abandon that theory – for one time only.

I say that because Guyana Amazon Warriors are in such great form right now that adrenalin might keep them going. Trinbago are not in the best nick and to be fair they only played two nights ago so it is not like they are fresh from a few days off or anything. Given that they are odds against just this once I’ll ride the form rather than the schedule and go with Guyana.
