CPL 2017 – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs St Lucia Stars Betting Preview

The second match in the Caribbean Premier League on Saturday is the second game of the tournament at Warner Park in St Kitts. That means we have the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in action and they take on the zero from six St Lucia Stars.

After a rain affected win on Friday night the Patriots will be determined to pick up another here while after six straight defeats to begin their tournament the Stars are all but out but can still spoil a party or two before they are done.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

It looked as though St Kitts and Nevis Patriots were on course for victory on Friday night before the rain came but as it was they were well ahead on DLS and picked up the win they deserved anyway. If they can back that up here, which is never easy as I repeatedly find myself saying, then they will be all but in the play-offs.

The bowlers have been very good for the Patriots this season but there was a reminder when Kieron Pollard was dropped on Friday that they need to maintain their standards in the field. If they do that they have the batting depth and all-round quality to be a formidable force in the remainder of this tournament.

St Lucia Stars

What else can we say about the St Lucia Stars that we haven’t already said? Whether they have batted first or batted second, won the toss or lost the toss they have been well beaten and you wonder how much motivation they will have left for their final four matches. You’d like to think personal pride would come into it but that remains to be seen.

You could make a case for them offering something in the rest of the tournament if they had shown anything so far but they have been rotten with the bat and their bowling has gone the distance and that is never a good combination. It is a combination which has cost Darren Sammy the captaincy too.

Team News

You wouldn’t think the Patriots would need to make any changes for this match after a largely dominant victory on Friday night.

Shane Watson has taken over the captaincy from Darren Sammy for the Stars. Whether that is to the detriment of Sammy’s place in the side remains to be seen but he hasn’t offered too much in the tournament so far.

Betting

I’m surprised after the number of sixes that we saw in a rain affected match here on Friday night that the line for this match is on the low side at 13.5. This is one of the smaller grounds in the Caribbean and the wicket is usually very good for batting so the sixes will flow again here.

There are some insane hitters of a cricket ball on show here and I have the feeling with nothing to play for the St Lucia Stars are going to pin the ears back and try and enjoy themselves with the bat. They might not even need to if either Evin Lewis or Chris Gayle get going. I’m on the overs here.
