The second match of the Caribbean Premier League season from the Kensington Oval in Barbados takes place on Sunday night when the Barbados Tridents play host to the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders.
Barbados were beaten in their opening home match on Saturday night and will want to win this one while Trinbago are in the halfway house but would be in a great position to defend their title with a win here.
Barbados Tridents
Although they tried to salvage something first up with the ball, the Barbados Tridents were pretty well beaten by the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on Saturday evening. They simply didn’t put up enough runs and that is starting to become a major concern for the Tridents who haven’t really batted well once yet.
You always know when a side is worried about their batting order or line up when they randomly throw in a pinch hitter and they have already ticked that box. They must find a way of getting a batting line up that clicks from the off and fast as they are going to eat up matches quickly this week and need some wins.
Trinbago Knight Riders
The defending champions have put together two wonderful run chases in their last two matches. They have stretched over 10 days though so inactivity could be a slight concern for them. That said they should be much the fresher of the two sides which can often be important head into the latter stages of these franchised competitions.
The concern for the Knight Riders moving forward is that their bowling attack has regularly been carted. In fairness Dwayne Bravo has been the biggest culprit in that unit so he either needs to improve or stop bowling himself as often. It isn’t like he is short of bowling options. On the flip side there is some insane power with the bat here.
Team News
Hashim Amla missed out through illness on Saturday evening. He won’t have had long to get over what the issue was so he may be forced to miss out here. If he does come back it could be Roston Chase who misses out.
Trinbago Knight Riders may make a change to their bowling attack but the only real problem has been Dwayne Bravo and it is hard to see them leaving him out. With that in mind the defending champions could be unchanged.

Betting
We have another one of those occurrences where a side is backing up a match less than 24hrs after its previous outing. This is the seventh time that has happened in the tournament and so far four of the six sides who have backed up the next day have lost. That is no surprise to me because it is so tough to do even if you are firing on all cylinders which Barbados Tridents aren’t. Their batting isn’t functioning as one and two bowlers aside they are going nowhere with the ball too. I think Trinbago Knight Riders win this one.
I also think there is plenty of mileage in Brendon McCullum to be the man of the match. He loves pace and bounce as we see regularly when he is playing in Brisbane in the Big Bash and he’ll get plenty of that here. He has had an all or nothing element to his season so far but his two 50s have come in matches against sides who offer plenty of pace in their attack. That is what he will be up against here so at 12/1 he is a nice price to be the player of the match.
