The Caribbean Premier League returns to Sabina Park on Wednesday evening for the penultimate match on the ground this season as the Jamaica Tallawahs host the Guyana Amazon Warriors in a huge clash for the home side.
The Tallawahs sit bottom of the table after a wretched beginning to the campaign but they did find a win last time out to offer themselves some hope moving forward. Guyana Amazon Warriors are undefeated this season and will attempt to stretch further clear at the top here.
Jamaica Tallawahs
There was a complete change of approach from the Jamaica Tallawahs last time out and it had the required effect. They loaded up their bowling attack with spin and pace off the ball options and it could not have worked any better. That was a day game though so they were able to do that. Whether they will be able to do that here, or if it will have the same effect should they go down that route given the dew that will be around remains to be seen.
The one thing which has to be better is their batting effort. They have the excuse that they are without three valuable components to that part of proceedings but even so we know they can’t rely on their bowling attack to deliver the goods so their batsmen will have to. Another area where there is huge improvements to be made for the Tallawahs is in the field but they have a lot of senior statesmen who probably aren’t up to the task in that discipline truth be told.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
There are no such issues for the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Their biggest opposition here could be rust or complacency. I say that because they have only played once in the last 10 days and have seen much of their competition fall by the wayside. That said, I get the impression that there is a real drive to go one better than they managed last season so I would be surprised if they allow complacency to come into play.
Guyana have been excellent with the ball and in the field so far. They have clear plans in place and they have bowled to them very well with no side yet to score more than 153 against them in the four matches they have played. That has taken the pressure off their powerful batting line up which has been able to play with freedom and show all of their class. It is quite some combination and could take a lot of beating.
Team News
Andre Russell is still not over the blow to the head he took last week by all accounts so he is likely to miss out here while Rovman Powell is now out for the tournament. He has been replaced by Dwayne Smith who needs a much better outing than his last one.
Guyana Amazon Warriors have no need to change a winning combination unless they want to bring in another seamer to deal with the potential dew issues that could arise here. The general consensus is that they’ll be unchanged though.
Betting
I like the Guyana Amazon Warriors here I have to admit. I don’t normally take teams to win before the result of the toss at Sabina Park but I just don’t see how the Tallawahs win this match. I’m not convinced their spin combination is a good plan here because of the dew and even then Guyana play on probably the most spin friendly pitch in the competition so they’ll be used to that and if Jamaica have to utilise their seamers we’ve seen them go round the park regularly. Guyana look a class outfit to me. They were my pick for this thing before the tournament started and nothing has changed in that regard. I think they match up well to Jamaica and I’ll take them to win as a result.
I’ll also play over 42.5 boundaries in this one. I do expect the batsmen to have the better of the contest because of the dewy conditions and the size of the ground. Both the night matches we’ve seen here have been very high scoring and I see this as being no different. Even the low scoring day game had 34 boundaries in it when 150 wasn’t threatened by either side. The other two matches have seen 42 and 73 make up the boundary count. We won’t see anything like the 73 but I do expect us to be nearer the 50 mark when this one is done especially if the likes of Gayle, Pooran and Hetmyer get going.
