There is a huge match in the race for the top four in the Caribbean Premier League on Friday night when the two teams not currently in those slots meet in a do or die clash at the Darren Sammy National Stadium.
St Lucia Zouks take on the Jamaica Tallawahs with both sides knowing that they need to win. If Jamaica lose their season is officially over but a win for the Tallawahs makes the final stages of the regular season very interesting.
St Lucia Zouks
It has not been a great campaign for the St Lucia Zouks so far but the positive to take from it is that they are not out of the competition yet. There has been some sloppy play from them in the tournament thus far, not least that horrible run out of Rahkeem Cornwall in their previous match when he couldn’t be bothered to ground his bat as he ran. That was a sign of the mess the Zouks were off the pitch before the competition started.
The longer the tournament has gone on the Zouks have started to deliver the goods with the ball although they had no answer to the quality of the Guyana Amazon Warriors last time out. To be fair to St Lucia there isn’t anyone in the competition who have had the answer to the challenge that the Amazon Warriors have posed. The Zouks need a confident performance if they are going to get the job done here.
Jamaica Tallawahs
At this stage of the competition the Jamaica Tallawahs must be thankful that the Barbados Tridents are in the field because after eight matches they are the only team they have had success against. That in itself highlights how wretched this campaign has been for the Jamaica side, of whom so much more was expected of when Chris Gayle came home to join the likes of Andre Russell in their squad.
Admittedly injuries have not helped them. Rovman Powell would have added so much more to this side with bat and ball while Russell himself has been out after being cleaned up in the first meeting between these two sides, but even then the Tallawahs have been extremely disappointing. Their bowling has been horrendous and the least said about their efforts in the field the better. In truth they haven’t been much better with the bat either.
Team News
The St Lucia Zouks appear to have stumbled across a settled line up at long last although they threw a curveball out there when Rahkeem Cornwall did not open the batting in the previous match. It will be interesting to see if they go with that plan again.
Jamaica Tallawahs have signed Liton Das for the remainder of the tournament which might be a quick spell. He is expected to go straight into the side with Javelle Glenn likely to be the one replaced. All eyes will be on whether Andre Russell is fit.
Betting
I’ve a feeling this will be a higher scoring game than it might look on paper. It is the final match in St Lucia this season so there is an incentive for the home side to go on the attack and against this bowling line up they shouldn’t have a huge amount to fear on what has largely been a decent wicket. We’ve seen some short boundaries as the square has been used on this ground so that will help the run scoring too.
The run line for this match is 326.5 which means we need in excess of 160 in the first innings but I don’t think that is impossible with who is on show. Jamaica’s batsmen have to come to the party at some point and with St Lucia adding depth to their ranks I would expect to see plenty of runs here. I’ll take over 326.5 in this one.
