CPL 2020 – Trinbago Knight Riders vs Jamaica Tallawahs Tips and Betting Preview

Two of the biggest franchises in the Caribbean Premier League meet in the second match of the Thursday double header when the Trinbago Knight Riders and Jamaica Tallawahs close off another round of games in the CPL 2020 season.

Both these sides won their first match of the season so whoever comes out on top here will go into the rest day for the event on top of the early regular season table. That is a decent incentive for both teams to put in a top performance.

Trinbago Knight Riders

There was a lot to like about the Trinbago Knight Riders in their opening match against the Guyana Amazon Warriors and you get the feeling there is even more to come from them. That is never a bad place for a side to be in, especially when they already have a win on the board. There is a lot of pressure on the Knight Riders this season, with the entirety of it being played in Trinidad, but they didn’t show that it was a burden on them in that first game.

When you think that Fawad Ahmed went wicket less from his four overs and Lendl Simmons, Colin Munro and Kieron Pollard were all out for less than 20, there is clearly more to come from Trinbago. Even without that they were clearly good enough to get the job done in that first game and if they offer up some natural improvement on top of that we should see something very special from this extremely talented side.

Jamaica Tallawahs

Although they didn’t face opponents as tough as the ones that the Trinbago Knight Riders did in their opening game, you can only beat what is in front of you and the Jamaica Tallawahs did exactly that to get their season off to a winning start. It was important that they won that opening match because if they didn’t then the car wreck of last season will immediately begin to haunt them. Having won that game they can now put last term to bed and set about launching a title challenge.

You only have to look at the best starting XI for the Jamaica Tallawahs to see the power that is in it. The fact that Jermaine Blackwood couldn’t get a game against the St Lucia Zouks is a further testament to that. The slight concern about the Tallawahs going into the tournament was that their spin department was young and inexperienced in these conditions but both players soon put that to bed in the first match.

Key Men

Sunil Narine had a brilliant match with bat and ball and got his tournament off to a great start against the Guyana Amazon Warriors. That is ominous for the rest of the competition as he’s only likely to get better from here.

Andre Russell had his limelight stolen by Asif Ali in the opening match for the Jamaica Tallawahs. He came with a huge reputation for being able to hit a long ball and didn’t disappoint in the first game. All eyes will be on him to see if he can back that up.

Betting

I took the sixes in the first match that the Jamaica Tallawahs were involved in and I see no reason to abandon that philosophy here. The line is up one from their win over the St Lucia Zouks but with the dew around this part of the world I’m still not convinced that a 14.5 line is high enough, especially when you factor in the natural power increase that will come from the opponents to the Tallawahs in this one.

Trinbago Knight Riders walloped nine sixes of their own in their opening match and as we alluded to earlier, three key players barely got going for them, so there is a lot more to come from the Knight Riders in the six hitting department. There is a case to be made that along with Guyana these are two of the most powerful and clean hitting batting teams in the competition and over the course of the night I expect them to deliver at least 15 maximums.
