CPL 2022 – Barbados Royals vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Tips and Betting Preview

The CPL 2022 double header on Sunday begins with a top against bottom clash as the final day of action in Trinidad starts with the Barbados Royals taking on the Guyana Amazon Warriors in a competitive looking clash.

The Barbados Royals have been the pick of the teams in the tournament so far and are already guaranteed to be involved beyond the regular season. Guyana are propping up the table but have only completed half of their fixtures.

Barbados Royals

The Barbados Royals were a dominant force in their opening six matches but they lost their last game. They plugged on in that match after the rain break but the damage had already been done by then and they weren’t able to repair it. This feels like a big game for the Royals because we often see teams fly through the opening stage of a season, take their foot off the gas when they have secured qualification and then fail to get the intensity back again.

It is important that Barbados don’t let their standards drop but they are going to lose players over the coming days which might impact them so they need to win each game they can just to carry some confidence into the finals with them. They also want to win to secure a top two spot and two goes at it if they need them in the latter stages. Barbados just need to maintain their intensity with the ball and they will be ok.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Guyana Amazon Warriors go into this match trailing the rest in the competition. There hasn’t been a need to panic up to now because they have only played five games and have their home leg of four matches to come where whatever happened they were probably going to need to win at least three of those to progress, but should they be able to take another win back home from this match it would just ease the pressure on them when they get there.

If the Warriors are going to come out on top in this match then they need someone to take responsibility with the bat. That will preferably come at the top of the order but someone needs to do it. In their last match against Trinbago they had things set up nicely at half time but nobody seemed to want to dig in and get the 40 or 50 which would have led them to the win. Those kind of scores are going to be needed from here on in.

Key Players

Rakheem Cornwall had a spell out of the side but he is back in it now and he is a key man here because he can get the Barbados Royals ahead of the game before the number of Guyana spinners come on to slow the run rate down.

Heinrich Klaasen had Guyana Amazon Warriors in a great position with three early sixes in his innings in the last match but then he got out straight away. They could do with their overseas star building on starts like that and putting up big numbers.

Betting

The Barbados Royals were excellent in St Kitts and in St Lucia but there was just a chink to their armour showing in their other game in Trinidad and whether that is down to a drop off of intensity due to them having already qualified for the latter stages or just a bad day at the office only they will know. They are due to be losing players soon so there could be some disruption among the Royals’ camp which won’t be ideal either.

Guyana Amazon Warriors haven’t really got going in this tournament just yet but they know that has to happen soon else they will be watching on when their home ground hosts the finals of this competition. There are signs of them being competitive though with a win over St Lucia Kings two matches ago and just a poor run chase from a winnable position in the last game. If they can address that batting and get players to build on their starts then Guyana can still be a force here. In the drier day conditions with the spin options Guyana have I think they are a bit of value here.
