Knockout cricket begins in the second part of the CPL 2022 double header on Tuesday when the St Lucia Kings take on the Jamaica Tallawahs for the right to continue their season on Wednesday. Only one team will progress here. The other will be done for the year.
Both these sides have had periods where they have looked good in this campaign and then times where they have looked pretty ordinary. They will need to find their best here if they are to remain in the competition though.
St Lucia Kings
The St Lucia Kings made it all the way to the final last year and they’ll be looking to win this and take a step closer to that spot once again. They have had an up and down campaign but were on a three match winning burst before they ran into a rampant Guyana Amazon Warriors last time out. They then watched on as the rain fell in their final group game so it has been a week or so since the Kings were victorious which is a bit of a concern.
The issue the Kings have had this season is they haven’t had that mystery spinner to call upon. It is fine having traditional spinners but players at this level are good enough to read them. The ones who have done the best have had those harder to read spinners. What St Lucia do have is some good seamers. The other problem that has crept into their game far too much in the second half of the season is their middle has disintegrated, not helped by the loss of Tim David.
Jamaica Tallawahs
The Jamaica Tallawahs were the best team out of the traps this season with two wins in their opening two matches but they could only win two of their last eight with one of those being a washout so they really only made it to this stage because the two teams who finished below them were very poor sides. It will need a big improvement for the Tallawahs to make it all the way to the final from here but they do have match winners in their side.
I think one of the problems they have had throughout the campaign is getting a complete batting performance together. They either get off to a good start then flounder in the middle order or start badly and get some sort of a recovery in the middle. If they can put a complete batting display together then you would think there is enough in their bowling resources to get the job done here. They lost to the St Lucia Kings in the regular season so will have revenge in their sights here.

Key Players
Johnson Charles has had an excellent tournament but he’ll be tested by the new ball attack of the Jamaica Tallawahs. If he can overcome that challenge and get the St Lucia Kings off to a fast start it would certainly help.
The key man for the Jamaica Tallawahs is their opener Brandon King. If he makes a sizeable contribution then there is enough that can bat around him to get the Tallawahs up to a score they will feel can challenge in this match.
Betting
We’ve seen that this is a small ground on the wicket that is being used for this double header. There is a shorter side and then the wind is carrying the ball to the longer side so I’m expecting to see a fair few sixes here. The concern to the sixes would be the Jamaica batting isn’t in the great overall nick but Chris Green strolled out at nine in the last game they played and so that is incredible depth and against a St Lucia attack which carries little in the way of mystery they should be able to get up and running.
St Lucia have no issues in the batting department. Their middle order has sometimes failed to capitalise on good starts but more often than not that is because they’ve come in later in the innings and tried to swing from ball one which is never easy. The Jamaica attack carries a bit more quality but again there isn’t a wrist spinner to it so as long as St Lucia play sensible they should be fine. That all makes me think that over 13.5 sixes is perfectly achievable here.
