CPL 2023 – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Trinbago Knight Riders Tips and Betting Preview

The second half of the CPL 2023 double header on Sunday sees the final Caribbean Premier League match of the season at Warner Park take place when the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots take on the Trinbago Knight Riders.

These two go into the match as the only two teams yet to pick up a win in the competition. The Patriots have played half of their campaign though so they probably need to win out from here. Trinbago have their home leg to come so aren’t in quite such a dire position.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots are now in trouble in this competition. They have played three quarters of their home leg of the tournament and are still looking for a first win and so it is imperative that they leave Warner Park with something to show from their four efforts on this ground. They only have four matches left after this one and they would be trusting to luck for 10 points to be enough to progress, which would be the most they could end up with if they lose here, especially with a negative run rate.

The big issue that the Patriots have is earlier in the campaign it was their batters who were the problem but on Saturday night they finally put up a decent score only for their bowlers to fail to defend it. You get the impression the only chance that St Kitts and Nevis have of winning a match comes in the form of chasing a score, but we are deep enough into the competition that a run chase is going to carry a lot more pressure.

Trinbago Knight Riders

The Trinbago Knight Riders are not in as much trouble as the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots but when you add the slow start they have had this season to the terrible campaign that they endured last term, it is fair to say that they have got a few questions to answer and a point to prove. Were they to lose here there would be real pressure growing on them to deliver in the home leg of their tournament which is to come later in the season.

Trinbago have a fearful batting unit but there is a bit of a danger that nobody takes responsibility within it and they all leave it to one another and fall flat on their face. There will be times where individual efforts get them over the line but if they want to be challenging for this title then they are going to need more than that. The one thing they can fall back on is that the longer this competition goes on the more their spinners should come into the game for them.

Key Players

Andre Fletcher got off to a decent start on Saturday night but once again he was out with a number of overs left in the innings. If he can take the innings deep then it will allow the Patriots to go even bigger than before.

Dwayne Bravo showed that he can still take wickets in this competition when he picked up 2/31 in the defeat to St Lucia Kings on Saturday. He was out for just one with the bat though and at some point Trinbago might need him to offer more than that.

Betting

The sixes have largely been good to us over the course of the Warner Park leg of the tournament and I don’t see any reason to desert them in this match. There is a potential feeling that the Trinbago attack is one of the harder ones to get away but the earlier match on Sunday had 29 sixes so there really isn’t going to be much for the bowlers. Those sixes came with both sides losing three wickets for less than 20 runs at the start of their innings.

We’ve seen throughout this leg of the Caribbean Premier League that the boundaries here are tiny at the best of times but there has been a wind blowing across the ground which has seen the ball fly even further. The pitch in the earlier game looked like an absolute road and with dew potentially coming in to further hinder the bowlers I see no reason why the sixes won’t flow here. Both these two have a seriously negative run rate so if there is the chance to win quickly they should take it so I like over 15.5 sixes in this one.
