CPL 2024 – Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Trinbago Knight Riders Tips and Betting Preview

The final match of the Caribbean Premier League regular season takes place on Sunday night when the CPL 2024 campaign is back at Providence for the clash between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Trinbago Knight Riders in a repeat of the final from last year.

Both teams have already made the latter stages of the competition and unless something incredibly bizarre happens Guyana will go into the Qualifier and Trinbago will play the Eliminator so this is a preparation for that.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Guyana Amazon Warriors took a while to get going this season but they have used the home leg of their campaign to good use and now they are assured of a spot in the Qualifier which gives them two goes at making the final. With key batters at the top of the order starting to come back as well there is a lot to like about the Warriors over the final week of the campaign and if they can win this match and lay a marker down they will be strongly fancied to successfully defend the title.

The best thing about the Amazon Warriors in their home leg of the competition is we have seen that they can win in a number of ways depending on the conditions that they face. They can win when the pitches are tacky and they need to rely on their spinners and when they are on a decent batting track they can put bowling attacks to the sword and that can only be a positive. When you consider that the tournament is on home soil from here on in they should be feeling very good about themselves.

Trinbago Knight Riders

The Trinbago Knight Riders have been involved in a very up and down campaign so far but they have done enough to make it into the finals and unless they win this match by an incredibly unlikely margin they will have to play three matches next week and win the lot if they are going to justify their billing as pre-tournament favourites. There is no doubt that they have the talent and more importantly the power to do that but consistency hasn’t been their thing so far.

There is no doubting that the Knight Riders have all the batting mite needed to go all the way in this competition but if there is a criticism of them it would come in the fact that their bowling can sometimes get a little ragged and if they are to play three successive knockout matches then that is a bit of a concern because that is generally when you get found out. There is no shortage of tournament winning experience in this side though.

Key Players

Rahmanullah Gurbaz missed some of the tournament while he was on international duty but he is back now and the top order for the Guyana Amazon Warriors will be a lot more secure and reliable and eradicates a weakness from earlier in the competition.

We saw glimpses of what Andre Russell offers with the bat in the last of the matches for the Trinbago Knight Riders and if he can now offer the goods with the ball too it would really help to balance the side after the Dwayne Bravo injury.

Betting

I really don’t see how the Guyana Amazon Warriors are the outsiders in this match. Admittedly Trinbago Knight Riders won the previous meeting between these two but despite only chasing 149 they found themselves needing 60 off the last five overs. Andre Russell came in and did what only be can do and got them home but the Knight Riders can’t rely on that sort of thing all the time and if Sunil Narine still isn’t fit then from that first game they need to find 2-24 with the ball.

Guyana Amazon Warriors have come alive with the bat since that match. Rahmanullah Gurbaz has returned to offer up a much stronger option at the top of the order and the rest of the team have been able to bat with some freedom as a result of that. Their bowlers have also hit their straps in Guyana and they have the spin options to deal with left and right handers. Guyana won the final between these two last season and I think they win this one too.
