With the Dunhill Links Championship beginning in Scotland on Thursday there is just about enough time to look at the side markets going into the tournament.
With such a high quality field and three cracking golf courses there is a lot of attention on this tournament and with that in mind a number of side markets have been priced up.
One quirk to the markets this week is unlike ‘normal’ weeks the first round leader market is split into three with a market for each golf course which is pretty handy for those who like those markets.
Most of the individual nations represented have been priced up too as have the traditional areas so there really is plenty to get stuck into.
The first market I like the look of is the Top American market where I like a former winner of The Open in Stewart Cink. This is a strong field for this particular market this week with the likes of Brooks Koepka, Scott Piercy and Sean O’Hair jetting in for the tournament and former runner up here Peter Uihlein is also in the field too.
Cink has been over for a bit having played the Italian Open where he went fairly well given his lack of time to acclimatise to the conditions. We know Cink enjoys links golf not just because he’s won The Open but his all-round record in it is pretty good too.
Winning another Claret Jug might be beyond him now but on three scoreable courses this week he could well outperform his American colleagues, some of whom aren’t suited to links golf.
In the end I’ve decided to take just that bet but I must admit the likes of Magnus A Carlsson and Roope Kakko interested me along with Robert Karlsson in the Top Scandinavian market and I considered Raphael Jacquelin to be the Top Frenchman but the quality in both fields is just strong enough to put me off a bet so I’ll stick with Cink.
