The Euro 2020 qualifiers continue on Friday evening when another important set of matches take place up and down the continent, with spots in the final stages again the reward for a few of the sides on show.
We saw England, Turkey and France book their spots in the finals on Thursday and on Friday the Scandinavian trio of Finland, Denmark and Sweden are among the sides who could make it through.
Group D
The table toppers Republic of Ireland are not in action on Friday night so Denmark and Switzerland will be looking to overtake them in the table heading into the final day of action on Monday. Switzerland have the toughest task as they host Georgia although they should still win that. It would be one of the bigger shocks in the history of this qualifying event if Gibraltar were to stop Denmark from picking up the three points, which will put destiny in their own hands on Monday night.
Group F
We already known that Spain will be in the finals next summer and so their match with Malta doesn’t have a whole lot riding on it but the one between Romania and Sweden certainly does. Sweden will be the second team from this group to make it into the next stage if they come out on top while a Romania win will keep them in control of their own destiny. Norway have the chance to pile the pressure on both when they get involved in the early kick off. They take on a Malta side who have offered little in the group.
Group J
Italy have already made it through from this group but they face one of the harder challenges in their group when they head on the road to face Bosnia and Herzegovina, a side who can still qualify themselves at the minute. Finland are in control of their destiny on Friday night though. If they beat Liechtenstein in Helsinki knowing that if they win the game they will be through to their first major finals. Armenia hosts a disappointing Greece in the other match in the section.
Betting
I had a good night in these qualifiers on Thursday and this Friday card looks a bit harder than that one so I’m not going to throw the profit away on things that aren’t quite providing the confidence I want so I will restrict myself to just the one bet on this set of matches and it comes from the big clash in Bucharest where I fancy the away side are being underestimated a little.
Sweden drew with Spain last time out to keep them ahead of Romania in the race for second spot in this group. That is significant because the final set of matches in this group sees Romania heading to Spain and Sweden hosting the Faroe Islands so if Romania are going to qualify automatically they have to win this match you would think. Obviously if the home side lose here then Sweden go through anyway but Romania will need to take some risks to win the game because them winning in Spain and Sweden not beating the Faroe Islands feels an unlikely chance. The risks Romania need to take may well play into the hands of the Swedes who can soak up some pressure and then attack their prey on the counter. There is a school of thought that the Romanians have been made to look good by the minnows in this group and if that is the case Sweden draw no bet looks a fair punt.
