It is the penultimate night of action in the Euro 2020 qualifiers for this international break on Monday evening and for a number of sides it could be a big evening as they look to go closer to a spot in the main finals or even actually secure it.
We saw the likes of Russia doing just that on Sunday evening and on Monday it will be the turn of England, Portugal and France to enhance their own hopes of playing in the tournament itself next summer.
Group A
Two matches will take place in this group on Monday evening with England in action to get the bulk of the attention. They head to Sofia to take on a Bulgaria side who have disappointed throughout this campaign but who know they have a play-off spot to fall back on anyway. The other match in the group sees Kosovo looking to keep their automatic qualifying hopes alive when they take on Montenegro in a big match for the home side.
Group B
It is a big night in Group B on Monday as the top two sides in it, the standout two sides, meet as the Ukraine host Portugal. Ukraine will qualify for the finals with a draw while both teams will qualify if Serbia lose their match regardless of what happens in the main game. Serbia should have a relatively smooth time of it though in Lithuania against a side who only have one point in the group from six matches which came against Luxembourg.
Group H
This intriguing group became a little clearer on Friday night and it could continue to do so on Monday in what is another big evening of action. The top two in this group meet when France host Turkey with the winners all but through to the final stages but the loser could open the door for Iceland and keep them interested. They host an Andorra side who will be looking to back up their first ever win in European Championship qualifying on Friday night. The other match sees Moldova looking to bounce back from that embarrassment when they host Albania.
Betting
I’m tempted by a couple on Monday night but after a poor set of results on Sunday I’m going to rein it in a little and go with just the one bet which comes in the lesser match of the evening between Moldova and Albania. I daresay that unless you are from either country this isn’t a match you’ll be tuning in to watch but actually there looks to be a good betting opportunity.
Moldova were embarrassed by Andorra on Friday night and that actually wasn’t the surprise it sounded. I say that because in seven matches in this competition the only match they won was the reverse match against Andorra but that was only 1-0 and that was one of just two goals they’ve scored in this group. Albania put up a good effort against a good Turkey side on Friday night and previously walloped Iceland so they are coming to the party once again. I would expect Albania to win this one and probably with a bit in hand.
