The latest international break ends in terms of the Euro 2020 qualifiers on Tuesday evening when those groups yet to play for the second time in this spell do so on what could be another huge night in the race for the main stages.
We’ve seen some big nations enhance their qualifying hopes or secure their spots in the finals and on Tuesday evening we’ll see the likes of Spain, Italy, and Switzerland looking to do likewise on a busy evening of football.
Group D
It is a massive night for the Republic of Ireland in Group D. They will make it through to the finals if they can pick up a win in Switzerland but anything other than that could leave them as sitting ducks in the final international break of the campaign. The other match in the group sees the bottom two meeting when Gibraltar play host to a Georgia side who might be disappointed with their output in this section.
Group F
The two top in this section meet on Tuesday night when Sweden host Spain in a match in which the visitors will qualify for the finals if they win. If that does happen that will see Sweden leaving the door to second place open to Romania and Norway and those two meet in the other key clash in the evening. Romania will move into second if they win and Sweden lose while Norway will set up a fascinating finale to the group. The Faroe Islands will be looking for their first points in the group in the other game when they take on Malta whose only points came in the reverse match between the two.
Group G
There is one match in Group G on Tuesday night as well and it sees the bottom two battling it out in Tel Aviv where Israel take on Latvia. Latvia haven’t registered a single point in this campaign yet and they’ve only contributed one goal to the party. Israel were in contention to qualify in the early stages of this group but their run fizzled out and they are already playing for pride and hoping they get a play-off spot.
Group J
We already know that Italy have qualified from this group and they will be expecting to ease past Liechtenstein to celebrate their qualification on Tuesday evening. Things are getting very interesting in behind them though with just two points separating Finland, Armenia and Bosnia Herzegovina. The first two meet in the biggest match in the group on Tuesday while Bosnia-Herzegovina head to Greece looking for what are three valuable points.
Betting
It has been a good international window for us in these Euro 2020 qualifiers and so I’m not going to push the boat out on what looks like a really tricky card to assess. There is one bet that I like though and that comes in the match between Israel and Latvia where unsurprisingly it is the home side that has my attention in terms of a betting proposition.
Latvia have played seven matches in this group and are yet to register a single point. The only goal they have notched in the campaign was an own goal in their opening match at the start of the year and they look like something of a shambles at the minute. Israel have struggled in their last four matches but three of them have been on the road. At home they are unbeaten in this group and that includes a more than creditable 4-2 over Austria. There is no doubt in my mind that Israel are clearly the better of these two sides. They showed that with a 3-0 win in Riga earlier in the campaign and can confirm it with a similar result here.
