Euro 2020 Qualifying – Tuesday 19th November Matches Tips and Betting Preview

It is the final night in the group stage of qualifying for Euro 2020 on Tuesday and by the end of the evening we will know the identity of the 20 qualifiers and the 16 nations who will go into the play-offs in March.

The majority of business has been decided in the four groups left to be completed, but it is a big night for Wales who can secure automatic qualification while the likes of Northern Ireland and Scotland will look for positive results to take into the next stage with them.

Group C

All that is left to determine in Group C is who finishes top of it as we already know that Germany and the Netherlands will qualify from it. Germany will top the group if they beat Northern Ireland in Frankfurt, but should they suffer a defeat then the door will be open for the Dutch to claim leading honours. They host Estonia in Amsterdam in a match they will be heavily expected to win, although that was also the case against Northern Ireland on Saturday night and they failed to come through that one.

Group E

This is where the key action on the evening takes place with all eyes on Cardiff as Wales host Hungary. The equation for the Welsh is a simple one. If they win they will automatically qualify but if they lose Hungary will advance. If the match ends in a draw then a Slovakia win at home to Azerbaijan will see them qualify automatically for the competition leaving the Welsh and the Hungarians to take their chances in the play-offs.

Group G

All events in this group have been sorted out already but there is still one round of matches to be completed. Poland will qualify as the winners of the group and they finish off their campaign but hosting Slovenia while Austria have qualified in second place and their finishing touches to the group comes in the form of a trip to Riga to take on Latvia. North Macedonia have a play-off place secured, as do Israel and they meet in Skopje with preparations for that on their minds.

Group I

The issues in Group I were settled some time ago. We have known for months that Belgium would qualify and they won the group on Saturday night. They finish off the section by hosting Cyprus while Russia, the other qualifiers for the tournament that they will co-host, face a trip to lowly San Marino who might still be giddy from finally scoring a goal on Saturday night. Scotland are at home in the play-offs and will go into them off the back of successive wins if they see off Kazakhstan at Hampden Park.

Betting

I’m sticking with the Home Nations on Tuesday night as I expect both Wales and Scotland to both win. It is going to be some atmosphere at Cardiff where the Welsh take on Hungary. Wales are undefeated at home in this group and a win sees them off to the tournament. Hungary have offered up some good stuff in qualifying so far but the fact they were beaten home and away by Slovakia highlights the limitations that they do have. They beat Wales in the reverse fixture earlier in the group but Ryan Giggs was still implementing his style then. Wales had a good win in Azerbaijan at the weekend and it isn’t like Hungary can sit back and take a draw as that would be no good to them if Slovakia win. That should allow the likes of Gareth Bale, Harry Wilson and Daniel James the space to do their thing so I expect a Wales win.

Scotland have been a shambles in this group so far but there are one or two signs of shoots of life in recent times. They beat San Marino 6-0 which to be fair is what was expected of them but the fact is they did it and they won in Cyprus at the weekend. Kazakhstan beat Scotland in the opening match of the competition but that was the Scots at their absolute worst. They are beginning to show shoots of life under Steve Clarke and might have revenge on their minds. More importantly they have positivity heading into the play-offs in their sight. Kazakhstan’s only win on the road in this campaign was in Sam Marino on Saturday night but even then they conceded. If Scotland harbour hopes of winning the play-offs this is a match they should be winning with a bit of comfort.
