The major leagues are in the middle of a break for the latest round of Euro 2024 qualifying matches which get underway on Thursday evening as four groups get matchday five up and running across the continent.
We are straight into the thick of it from the get go on Thursday evening with the world finalists France and the Netherlands among the teams who will be looking to enhance their qualifying credentials.
Group B
It is in Group B where France will look to strengthen their qualifying position. They have won all four matches in this section so far and will be looking to make it five from five when they entertain the Republic of Ireland at the Parc des Princes rather than the Stade de France with that venue preparing for the beginning of the Rugby World Cup on Friday evening. The other match in this group sees the likely two sides to be battling it out to qualify in behind France in action when the Netherlands host Greece in Eindhoven.
Group E
One of the more competitive groups in the qualifying campaign so far is Group E and we see the latest set of matches in that section on Thursday evening. It is a night where the top two meet when the Czech Republic host Albania with whoever wins that match ending on top of the group. Poland have a bit of catching up to do but will gain ground on one of the top two at least should they get the better of the Faroe Islands in the other game.

Group G
This is another group where the top two sides heading into the week will meet each other. Serbia currently head the table on goal difference from Hungary so their clash will determine who ends the night on top of the pile. That comes in the later kick off but before then we have an early game where Montenegro will look to close in on the top two when they make the trip to Lithuania who are shaping up to be the whipping boys of this particular section.
Group H
It is already looking like two from four in the race for qualification from Group H and two of those teams meet in the early kick off in this section when the early leaders Finland head to second placed Kazakhstan in what could be a huge game for both sides. Later in the evening Denmark will look to get themselves up towards the summit of the table when they host San Marino in what should be a comfortable home win. Slovenia are the other team in the mix to come through this section. They welcome Northern Ireland to Ljubljana.
Betting
The Ronald Koeman return to the Netherlands top job hasn’t really got going yet and I’m not convinced a home match with Greece is the one to launch it into life either. This is a Greece side who are making decent progress under Gus Poyet. They absolutely cruised their Nations League group which means that they are guaranteed a playoff spot from this campaign so they are almost playing free in the group stage which makes them a dangerous animal.
Greece have won two of their first three matches in this group with the one they didn’t win only being a 1-0 loss in France which is certainly no bad effort. In contrast, the Dutch have already been away to France and lost 4-0 and didn’t exactly get a boost to their confidence at the Nations League finals in the summer when on home soil they lost to both Croatia and Italy. There is no Memphis Depay for the Netherlands in this match which also isn’t ideal so I fancy Greece to get some sort of result here. If they don’t, I haven’t seen anything that suggests the Dutch will run away from them so I like the visitors on the +1.25 Asian handicap in this one.
