Group Preview
No team has made a successful defence of this title since Brazil did it was back in 1962 and that is what France will be looking to achieve. To give themselves the best chance they will be out to win this group as the runners up in it could be on a collision course with Argentina in the round of 16 and nobody wants that. Denmark outperformed France at Euro 2020 last year and they are the clear main dangers to the French, particularly as they did the double over France in the recent Nations League campaign. Tunisia and Australia look like clear third and fourth best and they will be out to pull off a major upset.
Group Betting
It might well be that the winner of this group comes down to the match between Denmark and France in the second round of games. It would be a surprise were Tunisia and Australia to take points from either side so at the prices it could be worth backing Denmark to win Group D. France have been rocked in the lead up to the tournament with the news that Karim Benzema will miss it and that will force them into a late change of plans.
Denmark are very much a team on the up. They qualified for this tournament in style and won four of their six Nations League matches including home and away against this France team. It isn’t just Benzema that France are missing, Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante are out too and they don’t look anything like the same team defensively as they did when they won this tournament four years ago. Denmark are solid at the back and have enough up front to take this group down.

Team Bets
I don’t like a huge amount of bets among the teams in this group but I do like Australia to finish third in it. I think they will bring more ambition and just that little bit more quality than what Tunisia might. I’m not really sure what Tunisia will bring to the tournament. They didn’t really impress at the Africa Cup of Nations and this looks a harder test than what they faced there. There is every chance they get wiped out by one of France or Denmark.
I’m not sure that will be the case with Australia. They have some good players within their ranks. They are solid enough at the back and have a creative force in Aaron Mooy while they have no shortage of forwards in their squad so they have the ability to change things u if they need a goal. You would think third place will be settled on the match between Australia and Tunisia and those different options make me side with Australia here.
