The entire second round of the Gibraltar Darts Trophy is played out across two sessions of action over in the Iberian territory on Saturday. In all we have 15 matches being played and by the end of the day we will know the identity of the 16 men who will play out the final day of the competition.
Afternoon session
With Adrian Lewis pulling out of the tournament there are seven matches on the card for the afternoon session with the first of them being the all-Scottish battle between Robert Thornton and John Henderson. Mervyn King plays Christian Kist in the next match with Simon Whitlock vs Gerwyn Price, Terry Jenkins vs Joe Murnan, Mensur Suljovic vs Jermaine Wattimena, James Wade vs Dyson Parody and Ian White vs Antonio Alcinas the rest of the matches in this session.
I’m tempted to take John Henderson in the opener. He survived a whopping 13 match darts in the opening round on Friday so his name might be on the trophy somewhere but the fact Wayne Jones had that many darts is enough of a concern for me to swerve that one.
I don’t fancy anything in the Mervyn King, Terry Jenkins, Suljovic, Wade or White matches but there is one I’m going with in the afternoon and it comes in the Whitlock vs Price match.
Gerwyn Price should be buzzing going into this tournament after he landed his first PDC title last weekend. He deserved that title too it must be said beating Peter Wright in the final as well as Daryl Gurney and Benito van de Pas prior to that final.
Price isn’t a flash in the pan though. He made a semi-final in the weekend before that where Terry Jenkins was one of his victims so we know that the Welshman is playing well at the minute and should be full of confidence.
Simon Whitlock has been coming back into form over the last nine months or so but he has lost twice to Price in their previous meetings including in this event last year. He isn’t currently in the form that Price is in so I like the Welshman in that match.
Evening session
The big names are all on stage in the evening session and there are some belting matches for us to enjoy. Three matches in particular take centre stage in the session.
Benito van de Pas vs Stephen Bunting, Gary Anderson vs Alan Norris and Peter Wright vs Daryl Gurney all get star billing and if that isn’t enough we have Dave Chisnall, James Wade, Michael Smith and Michael van Gerwen all on show not to mention Kim Huybrechts.
This should be a great session to watch but although Anderson, Wright and van de Pas all have genuine banana skins I can’t find a bet in these matches. If I was forced to I’d take on van de Pas against Bunting but instead I’m going to keep my money in my pocket instead of risk anything and just enjoy what should be a great night of arrers.
Tips
Back G.Price to beat S.Whitlock for a 4/10 stake at 2.10 with Coral
