The final round robin match in the Global Super League is basically a knockout clash as the Lahore Qalandars and the Rangpur Riders meet in an all-Asian dust up with the right to take on Victoria in the title tussle on the line.
The equation is a simple one for the Lahore Qalandars. A win here and they are into the final. Rangpur Riders need to win by a little bit of a margin to make it through but it isn’t a difference which is completely out of the question so this is a semi-final in all but name.
Lahore Qalandars
The Lahore Qalandars have had an interesting tournament so far. They were going along nicely in their opening match against the Guyana Amazon Warriors but then made a mess of the last five overs with the bat and were unable to recover the damage. They have won both of their matches since then with their second half of their bowling innings bringing them back in both games. That has set them up with the chance that any win here will send them into the final on Friday.
Lahore will be looking for a little more from their top order in this match so that they can relax a little with the ball in hand but where there is real room for improvement is with the ball in the powerplay. A couple of sides have got away from them and while they have managed to pull things back, they won’t want to rely on that in knockout matches. If they can tighten things up in the powerplay they will believe they have enough to get the job done here.
Rangpur Riders
This has been a bit of a rollercoaster tournament for the Rangpur Riders as well. They will still be wondering how they lost their opening match and then they went down to Victoria in their second game and it looked like that would be that for their hopes of going through, even more so when they failed to post a run a ball against the Guyana Amazon Warriors on Wednesday night but they did brilliantly to defend that total and something similar here will post them into the final.
The Riders will know that they have the bowling to deliver the goods here. Nobody has really got away from them when they have had the ball in hand but they won’t need to look too far to see where their issue has lied. That has been in the middle overs with the bat in hand. They have generally got off to decent starts, although that wasn’t so much the case on Wednesday, but haven’t made the most of those central overs and have come up short as a result. If they can sort that here they will be in good position.

Key Players
The longer this tournament has gone on the more of an impact Tabraiz Shamsi has had on proceedings and the Lahore Qalandars will be hoping that their spinner can set up another victory for their side.
I think it is fair to say that had it not been for a sensible and really good innings under extreme pressure from Khushdil Shah against the Guyana Amazon Warriors on Wednesday, the Rangpur Riders would already be out of the competition. If he can go well against a side he’ll know well it gives the Bangladeshis a chance.
Betting
I’m a little surprised that the Lahore Qalandars are as big as 4/5 to win this match. I expect them to play the seam of the Rangpur Riders team much better than the Guyana Amazon Warriors did on Wednesday night but there are other reasons for liking the Pakistan side. I do think that they have played the better cricket but they have had a couple of nights to recover and get themselves up for this match whereas Rangpur are having to back up less than 24 hours after their last outing.
The other reason why I like Lahore in this match is more of their batters have delivered for them in the tournament. Apart from Khushdil and the opening pair, the former who bats too low for comfort and the latter pair who will be under pressure, there hasn’t been enough Rangpur batters doing the job. I don’t expect the Rangpur bowlers to have as much joy in these conditions against an Asian side as they did on Wednesday night and when you put it all together I think the 4/5 on a Lahore win looks big here.
