The second night of action in the Gold Cup sees the first matches in Group B of the competition take place as the event heads to Costa Rica for the one and only time in its entirety. That nation are the headline attraction on what may be a more competitive night of football than the one we opened the event with.
Haiti, Bermuda and Nicaragua are the other three sides on show with both matches once again being shown live on Free Sports for us in the UK, as every match in this competition is going to be.
Haiti vs Bermuda (23.00)
The opening match of the group sees the second highest ranked team in it in Haiti taking on the third seeds Bermuda who are making their debut in the competition and who could be up against it, it must be said.
Both these sides went well in qualifying for the Nations League in this part of the world last year and they have both shown respectable showings in friendlies against more troublesome opposition so I’m expecting a fairly competitive game here, one which is maybe a shade tighter than the odds would suggest but rather than get involved in the handicaps or anything like that I think over 2.5 is the way to play this one. Both sides have good attacking options and I expect goals to be a feature in this tournament. These two can combine for three of them which might be the better way to play the match as it gives us 2-1 which would be no good for Haiti handicap backers.
Costa Rica vs Nicaragua (01.30)
The second match of the evening is the one the crowds will be most interested in as the co-hosts Costa Rica get their campaign underway when they go up against a Nicaragua side who might not be as bad as they are being made out to be in the betting odds.
I would imagine Costa Rica will win the game but they never score enough goals for my liking which makes not just backing them on a handicap a tough proposition but it doesn’t really do much for me when it comes to backing the home side to win. Nicaragua are without their best attacking option in Jaime Moreno which is a big blow so they might not offer as much going forward as they would want, but a draw would be a perfectly acceptable result for them here. That makes me think that under 3 could be the way to go here given that you have to go right the way back to 2016 for the last time Costa Rica scored four in any match.
