Although the eyes of the majority of the racing world will be on York on Friday, we are not committing ourselves to the UK for our racing coverage. Indeed, we will be looking at the big race in America over the weekend but before then a meeting in Ireland has caught our eye.
There is a card at Leopardstown on Friday and in the middle of that meeting is a good looking handicap with the required amount of runners for some value and some decent each way terms. Here is what we fancy in it.
4.00 Leopardstown
Preview
A mile and a quarter handicap for these fillies & mares, and a field of 14 head to post. Moon Daisy is a 3 year old & will start as favourite for Donnacha O’Brien but she’s yet to trouble the starter in 4 runs so cannot be backed with confidence. Both La Hacienda & Solene Lilyette were last time out winners, the former having her first run since leaving France & the latter having her first run in a handicap. Neither look the most obvious to follow up whilst Princess Mathilde has beaten just 1 rival in her last 4 runs so how she’s a 6/1 shot is beyond me.

In front of that rival last time out was Tooreen Angel & she’s my selection here. She’s been quite busy over the winter at Dundalk, running well but only getting off the mark in her 5th maiden but never finishing worse than 3rd. He then followed up on her first handicap start. Back on turf last time out, he finished 5th of 9, just over 2 lengths behind the winner, but that run can be marked up significantly. She didn’t settle great early doors & wasn’t well positioned out the back but worst of all, was kept wide on a very tight track & travelled so wide off the home turn that she ended up out in the middle of the track. Arguably, if she’d kept close to the rail, she may have troubled the judge & I expect her to go close off a 3lb lower mark.
