It is the day where the winner of the Hungarian Darts Trophy will be decided and the prizes handed out on Sunday when the final 16 players will play down to a champion over the two sessions of play in Budapest.
As ever with a European Tour event the afternoon session will see the last 16 played out while the remainder of the tournament will be played in the evening session. Time restrictions will stop us from previewing the latter stages but we’ll go through the last 16.
First Four Matches
The action on Sunday opens up with the former world finalist Jim Williams taking on the current Masters champion Joe Cullen. So many big names went out of this tournament on Saturday so both of those men will fancy their chances of going all the way now. The second match of the afternoon sees Madars Razma, the beneficiary of the bye in the last round when Gerwyn Price withdrew, taking on Rusty-Jake Rodriguez before the young sensation Josh Rock meets Dirk van Duijvenbode. We head to the interval with a clash between Boris Krcmar and Dave Chisnall.

Later Four Matches
We come out of the interval with another good looking match as Jeffrey de Zwaan looks to take advantage of an opportunity that has arisen when he takes on Jose de Sousa. The world finalist Michael Smith is then next onto the stage when he takes on William O’Connor. The penultimate match of the round sees the Czech star Karel Sedlacek going up against Nathan Aspinall before we round things off for the afternoon when the World Cup winner Simon Whitlock takes on Ryan Meikle.
Betting
Rusty-Jake Rodriguez has gone pretty well in this tournament and has already took care of my outright hope for the week in Danny Noppert. He didn’t just beat Noppert in the previous round he absolutely walloped him and a repeat of that display will give him every chance of getting the better of Madars Razma when the two meet in the second match of the afternoon. I always like to keep the younger and more progressive player onside in sport and that is what I’m going to do here.
It remains to be seen whether having Saturday off was a good thing for Razma or not but regardless of that he has a level which at its best is good but when good players play well against him he is still vulnerable. Rodriguez for me at his best has a higher ceiling than the Latvian. These two did meet in a Players Championship event last year which Razma won but I think the Austrian has improved a good deal since then and I fancy him to reverse that result here.
