The second half of Saturday’s Indian Premier League double header comes from the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai as the table topping Mumbai Indians host a really dangerous Delhi Daredevils side in what has the promise to deliver all sorts of fireworks.
These are two of the most talented sides in the IPL with a good mix of youth and experience which adds to the interest and intrigue in the clash. A win for either will strengthen their playoff claims too so this is another key match.
Mumbai Indians
After losing their opening match of the season the response of the Mumbai Indians has been superb. They go into this match off the back of five wins in a row including a sensational run chase in Indore in their last game. Their batting line up gives them a chance of chasing anything down but going forward they will need to ensure they can defend a total too.
In order to defend totals they need to either tighten up with the ball or when they get early wickets they need to make sure that they turn the screw and don’t let the opposition back into the match. One thing they have going for them is the expert brain of Mahela Jayawardena, who has made a very good start as coach.
Delhi Daredevils
The Daredevils were written off prior to the tournament because of their largely young squad but those young players have already lit up the competition and with the senior players delivering when needed this Delhi side can’t be ruled out in any match they go into.
After losing their opening match and then winning two matches as a response the Daredevils go into this one off the back of successive losses and they will be looking to end that run as soon as possible. In fairness they weren’t too far off against either the Kolkata Knight Riders or the Sunrisers Hyderabad so they shouldn’t be too downbeat going into this one.
Team News
Ambati Rayudu is back in training but the way the Mumbai batting line up is going it is unlikely he will return. If the Indians do make a change it could be that Lasith Malinga is rested after a couple of expensive matches.
Delhi Daredevils may well turn back to Corey Anderson after successive defeats without him. Shahbaz Nadeem could come back too as Delhi haven’t looked quite the same in his absence.

Betting
I find this one a tricky match to bet on. Mumbai Indians have been the best side in the competition so far and are worthy favourites but until the toss there is no such thing as a favourite on this ground. The boundaries and sixes lines both look about right if not a little on the high side given that Delhi don’t hit a lot of sixes so it is a player bets for me in this one.
Chris Morris is in the middle of a sensational tournament so far. His impact on the event has been so much that his performance line has gone from 33.5 earlier in the event to 39.5 for this match. I still don’t think that is high enough though. He has covered that in all five of the matches he has played in this tournament and given his three dimensional impact he has I expect him to cover it again. Two wickets will cover this and he is averaging more than that per match but with runs and catches he can bring it in by any means necessary.
Kieron Pollard is another who is having a big tournament and he may well need to make an impact in this match for Mumbai to win. Delhi are one side who take wickets with the new ball which might mean someone down the order comes in and explodes into life. He is certainly capable of doing that and I’m convinced he’ll top score one of these days! I’ll persevere with him again here.
