The Indian Premier League continues on Thursday when two sides play the second match of their IPL 2025 campaign when the hugely impressive Sunrisers Hyderabad take on the Lucknow Super Giants in the latest game in Hyderabad.
Hyderabad flew out of the traps in their opening match and will be looking to double their number of wins here. Lucknow looked to have their first game won but they managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory so they’ll be aiming to bounce back here.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
The Sunrisers Hyderabad went into this tournament as the favourites to land the title this season and we saw exactly why that was the case in their opening match as they blasted their way to victory against the Rajasthan Royals. Nothing that we saw in that game came as any surprise to anyone. You only had to look at the makeup of their starting XI to know what was coming and when this lot catch fire with the bat there probably isn’t a team in the competition who can keep up with them.
That batting mite does come at a bit of a cost in their bowling resources though and although they beat Rajasthan comfortably, they did still surrender 242 runs themselves and while there might have been a lack of intensity with the ball given the humungous total they had posted, they will need to perform much better than that in that department if they are going to win this tournament. That is where the focus will be because you would imagine their batting will more than hold its own.
Lucknow Super Giants
It was an up and down opening encounter for the Lucknow Super Giants but the end result wasn’t the one that they were looking for. There were many times in that first game where they looked like they had the match against the Delhi Capitals where they wanted it but each time they needed to put their foot down and put the contest out of reach of the opposition they fluffed their lines and soon found out that if you let a team hang around in this competition you’ll pay the price.
The Super Giants paid the price for not putting up more runs than they did. They got to 209-8 but when you consider that after 14.4 overs they were 169-3, to only score 40 runs in the last 32 balls of the innings left them with just a par total. It still looked like being enough when they picked up three Delhi wickets in the opening 10 balls of the bowling effort but they just couldn’t run through the order and in the end they paid the ultimate price.

Key Players
Ishan Kishan didn’t take long to get up to speed with his new team as he bludgeoned a century in the opening match for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. At number three he has licence to swing from the hip and if he comes off Sunrisers will be on their way.
Nicholas Pooran was the man who got out with five overs to spare when there was a century ready and waiting for him. Lucknow Super Giants will be hoping if he can get into a similar position that he bats much deeper into the innings and wins the game for his side.
Betting
I think the starting point for any bet on this match is for there to be a high scoring game. The opening contest on this ground yielded well over 500 runs and while this one might not get to those heights, with the batters on show there is a chance that it could do. The run line for this one is 397.5 which is high for any T20 match but here it might not be high enough. It doesn’t really allow for a bad last five overs from Lucknow Super Giants once again though.
The bet I’ve settled for us for Sunrisers Hyderabad to hit more than 27.5 boundaries. In that opening match the Sunrisers hit a pretty ridiculous 46 boundaries and in this fixture last season Sunrisers hit 30 boundaries in a chase of only 166, a score they reached inside 10 overs. In the opening Lucknow match of the season, Delhi hit 31 boundaries despite being three down after 10 balls. We’ve seen in the last season and a match that Sunrisers are going to flay away with the bat in hand and on this ground we only need them to be scoring in the 160 region for this bet to land.
