Ireland Tri-Nations Series Final – Bangladesh vs West Indies Betting Preview

The Ireland Tri-Nations series has made its way to the final of the competition. Sadly for the home crowds the hosts will not be in Friday’s title showdown but Bangladesh and West Indies should provide a good conclusion to the event.

These two teams have met twice in the tournament to date with Bangladesh winning on both occasions but with this being their last proper outing before the World Cup begins, both will be eager to put in a good performance.

Bangladesh

There is no doubt that the best team in this tournament so far has been Bangladesh but that doesn’t count for anything now. This is a one-off final where the best team on the day is likely to win from here so Bangladesh will need to be at their best one more time. This is ideal preparation for the World Cup though as they will hope to have two must-win encounters there to win the tournament.

The combination that has worked so well for Bangladesh in this series has been an excellent batting line up and a couple of spinners who have reduced the opposition total by just enough to make the run chases a comfortable challenge rather than one where they have had to take risks from the outset. It will be interesting to see how the Tigers go batting first as they will undoubtedly end up doing that in the World Cup at some point.

West Indies

I think it is fair to say that we haven’t seen the best of West Indies in this tournament. They haven’t been bad by any stretch of the imagination but there is a lot more to come from them, although that will probably come out when their senior players join up with the squad after this event. This is a chance though for them to deliver the goods in a pressurised knockout match and I’ll be an interested observer to see how they cope with that.

If there has been an area where they have disappointed this week then it comes in the form of their inability to get after the spin. Again they have a couple of second string batsmen so that might be another thing that gets addressed with their main men slot into the line up but if they want to win this final they will need to score more off the spinners for certain.

Team News

Bangladesh have a major doubt over Shakib-al-Hasan who picked up a side strain in the previous game against Ireland. That could see Liton Das remaining in the side while Mehidy Hasan is likely to come back in.

West Indies have rotated a bowler in each match in this tournament so far and you would imagine that is going to continue for this final. Shannon Gabriel sat out the last game and you would think that will mean he plays here.

Betting

I’m going to take a chance on West Indies in this match. Shakib-al-Hasan has been a big player for Bangladesh in both their previous matches against the men from the Caribbean. He hasn’t gone for more than 4.5 an over in his two spells against them and hit 50 with the bat in the first game so Bangladesh could feel his absence more than perhaps they would want to.

In both the matches the two teams have played West Indies have been in a good position after 40 overs and not finished off their innings. If the knockout nature of this match focuses their minds then I wouldn’t be completely surprised if they find it in them to get the job done here. I think they are the value at odds against.
