LV= County Championship 2023 – Monday 10th July Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The best day of the county cricket season comes along at the end of the week but before we get there we have a round of LV= County Championship matches to enjoy, a round of games which get underway on Monday.

Unfortunately over the course of the week there is another band of rain sweeping through the country so there will be a lot of shower dodging needing to be done. All play that does take place will be on the county streams.

Division One

It looked like Surrey were cruising towards a successful defence of their title but just when things began to look like a formality they came unstuck. They are still on top of the table and will hope to get back to winning ways when they host Nottinghamshire at The Oval. Essex are their closest pursuers and they head up to Blackpool to take on Lancashire before their date at Edgbaston for Vitality Blast finals day. We could have a rehearsal of the final of that tournament at Taunton as Somerset host third placed Hampshire. The bottom two in the table meet in what has all the makings of a defining week at Northwood when Middlesex take on Northamptonshire and in the other game Kent welcome Warwickshire to Canterbury.

Division Two

Durham are setting the pace in the race for promotion in Division Two and they will be looking to use the fuel of not reaching the knockout stages of the Vitality Blast when they host a Gloucestershire side who are yet to win a match in red ball cricket this season. Leicestershire had a T20 campaign to forget, one which saw the end of Paul Nixon as coach in the process, but they resume the Championship in second spot in the table and make the trip to Cardiff to take on Glamorgan. Sussex are yet to lose a game this season and they are a point off the top two in third. They welcome a Derbyshire side who are still looking for their first Championship win of the season to Hove. Worcestershire will look to bounce back from their Vitality Blast quarter final defeat at Hampshire when they play host to Yorkshire.

Betting

There isn’t really a lot to go at this week, partly because a number of the teams are involved in the Vitality Blast finals day at the end of the week and it would be human nature to have more than an eye on that. In truth, the Division One fixtures all look like they are priced up pretty correctly but thankfully that isn’t the case with one of the matches in the other division and the one which catches my eye is the one at Cardiff where Glamorgan host Leicestershire.

Leicestershire deserve a lot of credit for moving their way up to second in the table but I think their form ends here. They look like they are in a bit of trouble with a number of players leaving and the coach having just got the sack and now they go up against a Glamorgan side who I’m expecting to finish the season well. They have Michael Neser out of the Australia squad for this match which is a massive boost and a batting unit which is very strong. The Leicestershire attack leaves a bit to be desired for me and I’m not convinced about their batters away from Grace Road. I like Glamorgan in this one. They look to be getting Leicestershire at an ideal time.
