The Made in Denmark tournament threatened a major twist on Saturday and many more thrills and spills are expected on what could be a very exciting final day on Sunday.
David Horsey continues to lead, as he has done right from the start of the tournament, but his one-time six shot lead has been reduced to just one and there are already signs he’s seen the finishing post too early.
Horsey stalled quite alarmingly on the back nine on Saturday to allow a host of players back into the tournament when he had the potential to put it to bed. He sits on 15 under for his three rounds and leads by one from the aging Australian Terry Pilkadaris.
Pilkadaris has been playing on the Challenge Tour for most of the season but he will have the chance to change his career on Sunday. He moved right into contention with a wonderful round on Saturday but backing that up at a level he’s unaccustomed to will be tough.
If you’re not a Horsey follower or fan and given that Pilkadaris looks way too short to even contemplate backing then there is going to be some value in the outright market for you. The only problem is finding it.
Horsey leads by four from Chris Paisley and John Parry and both are priced at 14/1 to win the tournament. Paisley has looked solid enough this week and John Parry has shown further signs of good form he’s been enjoying for a while.
It would be no surprise if either were to win on Sunday. I’m already on Paisley to be the top Englishman and I’m still hoping he lands that and realistically if he does he may well win the tournament so I need not back him again.
A little further back are Richard Green (-10), Bradley Dredge (-9) and my pre-tournament pick Soren Kjeldsen (-8). All three are nicely priced to put in a surge on the final day and get something out of the tournament. You’d think with the home crowds cheering for him Kjeldsen is most likely so again I don’t need to back him again.
Going into Sunday and I do think John Parry can go well. He’s in the top 12 in driving accuracy and greens in regulation in the field this week which are factors which give him the chance to go low. He’s also in the top 20 in the putting stats too so a good round should come his way.
I wouldn’t necessarily put anyone off taking the 14/1 on Parry but you’ve got to think Horsey has to throw it away for him to win but the Englishman is a tasty price at 13/5 to win his three ball with Bradley Dredge and Richard Green. Dredge and Green are probably more experienced than Parry but both struggled a bit on Saturday and are probably under more pressure to chase birdies on Sunday.
I’ve seen nothing this week to suggest Parry should be such a clear outsider in this group so I’ll nibble on that 13/5.
