Metro Bank One Day Cup 2023 – Tuesday 8th August Matches Tips and Betting Preview

There are three matches in the Metro Bank One Day Cup on Tuesday as the competition heads towards the halfway mark of the group stages. We are beginning to see the contenders come to the fore and the six sides in action will be out to showcase their credentials over the course of the day.

We have two matches in Group A on Tuesday and another in what is a heavily congested Group B but as is the case throughout this competition we need to load up the county streams to watch the matches with The Hundred getting the TV treatment.

Hampshire vs Essex (11.00)

The big match on Tuesday is the repeat of the Vitality Blast semi-final as Hampshire take on Essex at the Ageas Bowl. Essex won that semi-final in incredible fashion and will be hoping for a repeat, while Hampshire go in search of revenge.

Hampshire have only played once in this tournament this season, a match they won against Middlesex but they were saved by the rain a little because Middlesex were just getting into position to win the game when the rain came. Essex have played twice in this competition with a washout when they were in trouble against Lancashire and then a complete humbling against Nottinghamshire where they were bowled out for 69. The additions of Nick Browne and Simon Harmer come to their squad at a good time, particularly the latter with his wily spin and lower order hitting. Hampshire look a batter light in this competition and their two young bowlers, while promising talents, offer up targets that can be attacked so this feels like a good chance for Essex to pick up their opening win of the season. While Essex were walloped by Nottinghamshire, they bowled them out for 237 and if they keep Hampshire in that range I would expect an Essex win. I think the even money on them is a little more than a fair price.

Glamorgan vs Durham (11.00)

The one match which comes from Group B on Tuesday sees two sides with a win and a defeat on their record so far meeting when Glamorgan take on Durham in what could be a high scoring contest down in Neath.

Glamorgan dropped their opening match of their campaign to a good looking Worcestershire side before rebounding with a win over Derbyshire in their second game. Durham have the same pattern about their competition too. They too were beaten by Worcestershire in their first match and then they bounced back to wallop Sussex, piling up 427/9 in the process. You sense this would be a very high scoring match with the quality of the batters on show in this one but sadly, as is often the case in this part of the world, the weather doesn’t look like it is going to play ball so there is no point in dwelling too much on this one.

Leicestershire vs Nottinghamshire (11.00)

The other match on Tuesday comes from Grace Road where the top two teams in Group A put their unbeaten records on the line when Leicestershire play host to their local rivals Nottinghamshire in what might be a defining match in the group.

Whoever wins this will have the chance to very much control their own destiny both in terms of reaching the latter stages of the competition and potentially hosting the semi-final. Leicestershire had a top seven which looked strong on paper before the tournament started and it hasn’t let anyone down, chasing down 325 with absolute ease at The Oval to beat Surrey and then plundering 380 against Kent at Beckenham on Sunday. Nottinghamshire coasted to victory in their only completed match so far, bowling Essex out for just 69 and it will be interesting if that was just a freak bowling performance or whether this attack is that good. One way or another we will find out here because this Leicestershire top seven is legitimate and will present that Nottinghamshire attack with a significant test. You sense whoever wins that battle wins the match but with a bit of weather around as well I’m happy to sit this one out too.
