Metro Bank One Day Cup 2024 – Thursday 25th July Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Metro Bank One Day Cup continues on Thursday when another four counties get their 50 over campaign underway as two matches take place across the country on the second day of the new tournament.

We saw some high scoring matches on the opening day of action on Wednesday and there is no reason to think that these two games will be any different. You need the live streams offered by the county if you want to watch either game.

Glamorgan vs Gloucestershire

We have a clash of two teams in the west from Group B as the 2021 winners Glamorgan begin their quest to get hold of the title again when they play host to Gloucestershire, who have a rich record in this competition back in the day, in Cardiff.

Gloucestershire have already had a successful white ball campaign as they have made the quarter finals of the Vitality Blast and they will be looking to follow that up here. They have lost three bowlers to The Hundred so will be without David Payne, Matt Taylor and Marchant de Lange but they still have the likes of Josh Shaw, Tom Smith, Zaman Akhter and Ollie Price so there is the foundations of a decent bowling unit. What I like about Gloucestershire is they have an overseas player in Cameron Bancroft and he, along with Miles Hammond, James Bracey, Ben Charlesworth, James Taylor and Price pretty much means that their top six from the Blast are still around. Glamorgan are going to be hurt by not having an overseas player available for this match. Marnus Labuschagne hasn’t been signed for the 50 over competition and Colin Ingram is on standby for The Hundred. The Welsh county have also lost Mason Crane and Chris Cooke to The Hundred and Sam Northeast is injured so this is a lighter looking batting unit than Glamorgan would like and there is one or two holes in their bowling which can be exploited. They had a poor Blast campaign and with Gloucestershire much closer to their strongest XI here I think they are the pick in this one.

Surrey vs Yorkshire

The other match on Thursday also comes from Group B where two of the biggest counties in the game meet as Surrey go up against Yorkshire in what historically would have been a clash between County Championship contenders.

Both of these teams have lost players both to England and to The Hundred and Surrey have certainly been impacted heavily, although they do have three former England internationals in their ranks in the form of Rory Burns, Ben Foakes and Dom Sibley but there are a lot of youngsters around them, especially in the bowling department and it will be interesting to see how they gold up over the course of this competition. Yorkshire are in a similar boat in that Joe Root and Harry Brook are with England while Jonny Bairstow, Adam Lyth and Adil Rashid among others are in The Hundred so these are very much two depleted sides on show here. The thing is with the exception of Lyth, Yorkshire have been without their missing players throughout the Vitality Blast so their team out in this match is similar to the one they had in the T20 competition, particularly with the ball. Unlike Surrey, Yorkshire do have an overseas player available in Shan Masood and I think they’ll win this but they are the favourites and there is some rain around and I’m on them outright and we don’t know exactly how they are going to fare and so I’ve already got enough incentive for them to win without adding to it.
