MLS 2017 – Philadelphia Union vs New England Revolution Betting Preview

The final match of the MLS weekend comes from Philadelphia on Sunday night as the Philadelphia Union host the New England Revolution in a clash between two strugglers in the Eastern Conference.

Both sides are in need of a win to get them back somewhere on the fringes of the play-off spots so they should both be seeing this as an important match in their season especially with the Gold Cup break coming up after this game.

Philadelphia Union

The Union have had a very up and down season so far. After struggling badly out of the blocks they then went on a winning spree but have gone back into their shell a little recently. They did win in their last MLS match but were taken all the way to penalties in midweek so a big effort is needed here.

A lack of goals have been the undoing for Philadelphia in recent times. They have only managed to score twice in their last four matches and if they are going to turn their form around they will need to find the onion bag a lot more than they have been doing. They’ve only conceded six in their last nine so they are fine at the other end.

New England Revolution

At no stage this season have New England been able to find any consistency and that is a surprise for a franchise as established as them. When they have been good they have been very good. They have thrashed Toronto FC and Real Salt Lake in recent times but the opposite works too. When they are poor they are very bad.

The Revolution have won just one of their last five matches but to be fair to them they have played against the top three sides in the Easter Conference in their last four games so they have had a nasty schedule recently. They finally face a side lower in the standings and will be looking to take full advantage of it.

Team News

Philadelphia are going to be without their key midfielder Alejandro Bedoya. He is away with America now so he misses this game. Andre Blake is a big doubt for the match as well which isn’t ideal.

New England Revolution are without their own international players. Juan Agudelo, Kelyn Rowe and Gershon Koffie are all away with their national teams while Xavier Kouassi is out with injury.

Betting

This isn’t a match to bet on in my eyes. I say that because both sides are struggling for form recently and both have key players missing on international duty. This is the last MLS match for a shade over two weeks so eyes could be on a break so I’m not going to get involved here.

If I was tempted I might change New England at the price after the nasty schedule they have had but nothing really interests me so I’ll sit this one out.
