MLS 2017 – Portland Timbers vs New England Revolution Betting Preview

There is one more match remaining in the MLS weekend and it comes from Providence Park as the former champions Portland Timbers host the New England Revolution in what has the potential to be an extremely entertaining match in the early hours of Monday morning UK time.

The Timbers head into the match on top of the Western Conference while the Revolution are towards the foot of the Eastern Conference so the visitors could really do with a victory here to get back in the mix.

Portland Timbers

This will be the fifth match of the season for the Timbers after they played in the international break last week. Playing that match did them few favours as they lost their perfect start to the campaign when they went down 3-2 to the Columbus Crew where the likes of Darlington Nagbe in particular was badly missed.

Portland have a very strong record at home. They have already won both matches at Providence this season and are scoring goals too which is almost their DNA. With their internationals back in the squad for this match and the game coming late enough for them to feature strongly the Timbers will expect to be hard to beat.

New England Revolution

It had been a tough start to the campaign for the Revolution. They weren’t helped by their first home match being cancelled because of the snow in the Foxboro area and either side of that they were beaten on the road, albeit at sides with excellent home records in FC Dallas and Colorado Rapids.

They took advantage of the international week though to power past Minnesota United last week in a match where they scored five in a 5-2 win, a win they will be hoping will kick their campaign into life. Conceding goals is a slight concern for this New England side but they have at least shown last week they have goals in them.

Team News

Liam Ridgewell has been out for a while but he has been upgraded to just questionable for this match and it would be a huge boost for the Timbers if he was to play. Darlington Nagbe and David Guzman return from international duty.

New England Revolution have no injury problems heading into this match so they could be unchanged from last week. Lee Nguyen and Kei Kamara could be big players for them.

Betting

I’m never one to take on Portland Timbers at home but you have to respect the attacking prowess in this New England Revolution side so maybe odds on quotes on the Timbers are just a little short in this one. One line which isn’t short is the goal line which at 3 I think is very attackable.

Portland have nine goals in their two home matches this season but they have conceded in both those games too while New England are yet to keep a clean sheet but showed last week they have attacking power. I’m expecting another end to end, excitement loaded Portland home match here.
