MLS 2017 – Sunday 14th May Matches Betting Preview

The MLS weekend concludes with three more matches on Sunday evening with the first two of them live on TV in the UK for us to enjoy heading into the early hours of Monday morning. Some big names are on show over the three matches so it should be a good evening of football.

Portland Timbers vs Atlanta United

Portland Timbers host the expansion franchise Atlanta United for the first time knowing they can go top of the Western Conference for a couple of hours should they win the match. Atlanta have hit a mini-slump which they will want to get out of.

I’m really looking forward to this match. I love watching both these sides because of the offensive element to their play. Both sides love to get the ball down, get it forward and score goals and I think those styles will meet brilliantly to ensure we get plenty of goals here. Portland specialise in goals at home but Atlanta are no strangers to finding the net either so I like the overs in this one.

New York Red Bulls vs Los Angeles Galaxy

Two of the biggest names in MLS meet in the second match on Sunday night but in truth neither are playing to their reputations at the minute. The Red Bulls sit fifth in the East, nine points behind Toronto while the Galaxy are down in ninth in the West.

The Red Bulls will be glad to get back on their own patch because they’ve suffered a couple of heavy losses on the road in the last couple of games while Los Angeles head into the match without a win in their last four. Given the struggles of the two this isn’t a match I want to get involved in really.

FC Dallas vs New York City

A win in the final match of the night will take FC Dallas back to the top of the Western Conference but New York City and David Villa in particular will have something to say about that. City will be looking for the win which will move them back into second in the East.

Dallas head into this match still unbeaten for the campaign and that is credit to their approach and how tough they are to beat but New York City have enough match winners to be able to beat anyone on their day. That said I really do rate Dallas at the minute so this isn’t a game I want to be taking them on in. Given NYC’s stars Dallas look a touch short to back so I’ll sit this one out too.
