MLS 2017 – Wednesday 31st May Matches Betting Preview

The midweek round of MLS matches this week consists of four fixtures which will be played out up and down America on Wednesday evening into the early hours of Thursday morning UK time.

We have a couple of Eastern Conference matches, a Western Conference match and a cross-Conference game to get stuck into. Unfortunately none of them are on TV in the UK so we are resigned to using the streaming consoles.

Columbus Crew vs Seattle Sounders (00.30 kick off)

The mixed Conference match sees the very up and down Columbus Crew taking on a rejuvenated Seattle Sounders in a match both sides will probably believe they can win.

The Crew are decent enough at home this season although they have lost two of their last three matches albeit to decent sides in Toronto and New York City while Seattle’s only win on the road came at an out of sorts at the time Los Angeles Galaxy side.

I would expect goals in this match but Seattle look to have tightened up a bit in recent times which puts me off so I will sit this one out and move on.

New York City vs New England Revolution (00.30 kick off)

This all-Eastern Conference match sees a New York City side looking to bounce back from their defeat in Atlanta at the weekend facing up to a New England Revolution team who were beaten by the other New York team last time out.

This is another match where I would expect to see some goals but with a goal line around the 3.25 mark that is a little too high for me in a midweek game where the result is the most important thing with each side coming in off the back of losses.

Orlando City vs DC United (00.30 kick off)

Two more sides from the Eastern Conference collide in Florida when Orlando City host DC United. Both teams head into this match off the back of differing results last weekend. Orlando were beaten tamely in Minnesota while DC picked up an extremely fortunate win in Vancouver.

Orlando City have gone right off the boil in the last month or so to the point that you couldn’t possibly back them at odds on even allowing for the fact that DC United have done plenty of travelling in recent times. I’m rarely keen on backing DC at the best of times and off the back of that travel they certainly don’t appeal to me so I’ll sit this one out.

Houston Dynamo vs Real Salt Lake (01.30 kick off)

The only Western Conference battle of the night sees the Houston Dynamo taking on Real Salt Lake in a match which could have real implications on the table. A win for Houston will see them move to the top of it while Real Salt Lake would move level with the final play-off spot should they triumph.

The Dynamo head into this match off the back of three matches without a win but they were all on the road and we know they don’t function as well away from home as they do on their own patch. That said they were given some encouragement and a confidence boost when they left Dallas with a point at the weekend.

Real Salt Lake have won two of their last three beating a poor Philadelphia Union side and an out of sorts New York City. They were both at home though whereas on their travels they tend to struggle. Their only road win came against an awful Colorado Rapids and in their last three away games they have lost the lot, conceding eight and without scoring in any of those matches. I sense that trend will continue here. I fancy Houston to return to winning ways with a bang.
