MLS 2018 – Saturday 23rd June Matches Betting Preview

Major League Soccer returns this weekend after a mini break and it does so with eight matches which take place on Saturday evening across America. Some teams have played in the US Open Cup since the last round of MLS games but with the season heading into its second half there should be a real intensity from here on in.

Two of the eight matches are live on Sky for those of us in the UK to enjoy while the other six will be on the usual streamed offerings so there is no reason to miss out on any of the action.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off time in brackets)

Philadelphia Union vs Vancouver Whitecaps (22.00)

New York Red Bulls vs FC Dallas (23.00)

Orlando City vs Montreal Impact (00.30)

Sporting Kansas City vs Houston Dynamo (01.30)

Colorado Rapids vs Minnesota United (02.00)

Real Salt Lake vs San Jose Earthquakes (03.00)

Seattle Sounders vs Chicago Fire (03.00)

Los Angeles FC vs Columbus Crew (03.30)

Big Matches

The two live games on the TV are the earlier matches. The first one sees Philadelphia Union takes on Vancouver Whitecaps in a cross-Conference clash in which both sides will believe they can win while in the second match Orlando City begin life after Jason Kreis when they take on the side who finished his reign in Florida in Montreal Impact. Both sides will be eyeing up what could be a big win in that match.

Best of the Rest

The leaders of the Western Conference, Sporting Kansas City take on one of the chasing pack in the table in Houston Dynamo in a juicy looking clash. With Atlanta United and New York City FC not playing until Sunday, Columbus Crew can try and close the gap in the Eastern table. They face a tough test at high flying Los Angeles FC. Two sides who should be doing better than they are meet when Seattle Sounders host Chicago Fire while two other sides who are going well collide in the Big Apple as New York Red Bulls take on FC Dallas.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the evening, both of which are goal bets. I took the overs when Montreal Impact and Orlando City met in Canada a couple of weeks ago and I’ll take them again here. Jason Kreis has gone from Orlando and the purple men have already won in the US Open Cup without him so I’m expecting to see them at their offensive best here. Montreal should get chances of their own going the other way and we saw them open Orlando up at will in that recent meeting. That should all equate to more than three goals here.

It is very rare that you find a Houston Dynamo match that has a goal line of 2.5 these days but even against Sporting Kansas City I’m happy to take advantage of it. We know Houston will play their open and expansive style and while SKC have dried up a little in front of goal they have more than enough in attacking areas to take advantage of that. Houston often threaten their opponents’ goal whether at home or away so this could turn into one of those MLS classics quite easily. I’ll go over 2.5 in this one.
