The MLS weekend begun on Friday night with a competitive clash in the Western Conference and on Saturday it continues with some tasty looking matches as the league heads towards its mid-season break.
In all we have nine matches up and down the country to enjoy over the course of the night with two of them live on TV for those of us in the UK. We all know the usual streaming methods to watch the others by now so there is plenty to enjoy.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off in brackets)
Portland Timbers vs Los Angeles Galaxy (22.00)
Atlanta United vs Philadelphia Union (00.30)
Columbus Crew vs Toronto FC (00.30)
Montreal Impact vs Houston Dynamo (00.30)
New England Revolution vs New York Red Bulls (00.30)
New York City vs Orlando City (00.30)
FC Dallas vs Los Angeles FC (01.00)
Chicago Fire vs San Jose Earthquakes (01.30)
Real Salt Lake vs Seattle Sounders (02.30)
Big Matches
The two TV matches on Saturday evening come early on. The Western Conference clash between Portland Timbers and Los Angeles Galaxy is the first of those and then Atlanta United will get the chance to consolidate their lead at the top of the Eastern Conference when they do battle with Philadelphia Union. There is also a repeat of the Eastern Conference final from last season when Columbus Crew take on the champions Toronto FC.
Best of the Rest
Two sides high up in the Eastern Conference meet at Yankee Stadium when New York City host Orlando City while top spot in the Western Conference is at stake for FC Dallas when they host Los Angeles FC. Montreal Impact will look to snap a run of four straight defeats when they take on Houston Dynamo while there is a juicy looking derby of local sorts when the New England Revolution play host to the New York Red Bulls.

Betting
Portland Timbers are on a wonderful run right now and I see no reason why that can’t continue when they play host to a hit and miss Los Angeles Galaxy side. The Timbers are perfect at home this season and I expect that to continue against a Galaxy outfit who played in midweek and who were beaten more comfortably by FC Dallas than the 3-2 scoreline suggested. Ibrahimovic or no Ibrahimovic I don’t particularly rate this Galaxy side so I’m happy to be on the hosts here.
Another home side I like at Atlanta United. Philadelphia Union are little better than terrible on the road. They have only scored twice in six matches on their travels this season and you would think they are going to need to double that tally and some if they are to come away with anything from the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. To be fair Atlanta have lost their last two at home but circumstances went against them in both matches and even then they lost to infinitely better sides than the Union are. We have become accustomed to Atlanta dominating at home and I expect them to get back to that with a comfortable win here.
At the same time as that Atlanta match I am expecting to see a few goals in the match between the Montreal Impact and the Houston Dynamo. I mentioned in midweek how Houston just play expansive football whether they are at home or away and Montreal have the players in attack to take advantage of that. It is rare that Houston don’t score in a game though so I’m expecting the goals to flow nicely here.
