There is a rare Monday offering in the MLS this week as two Western Conference sides go into battle when the Seattle Sounders host the Houston Dynamo, in a match which could turn out to be huge for the home team.
Seattle are currently in the play-offs and can all but secure their postseason spot as they look to regain the title they won two years ago while Houston are just playing out time on what has already been a successful campaign after their US Open Cup win.
Seattle Sounders
It looked like this season was going to be a write off by the halfway stage when the Seattle Sounders were going absolutely nowhere and looking every but the shambles their record suggested they were, but suddenly something clicked and now they are one of the form sides of the entire league and could amazingly finish in the top two in the Western Conference.
A win here would move Seattle to within three points of second placed Sporting Kansas City and their two matches after this one sees them taking on a rotten Orlando City side and the reverse meeting with Houston so the Sounders have to be thinking about a postseason bye in the first week of the play-offs.
Houston Dynamo
They might have four matches of their regular season left but the Houston Dynamo’s campaign is over from a competitive standpoint. While they will look back on the year with positivity after their triumph in the US Open Cup, it will be a season of thinking what might have been in the MLS with their record a pretty poor one.
To be fair to the Dynamo, they are one of the best sides in the league to watch with their attacking intent and the pace and dynamism they have in the wider areas but a rotten run of form in the middle of the campaign has cost them dearly. They are now taking on the role of playing the party poopers as they maintain enough danger in their side to turn anyone over.
Team News
Seattle Sounders have one or two injury problems to contend with in this match. They knew they were going to be without Jordan Morris but they won’t have wanted Harry Shipp or Brad Smith to be sidelined but they are.
The Houston Dynamo will be without experienced defender Philippe Senderos who is out with a hamstring injury. The same issue has ruled Eric Alexander out of the match for the side who have little to lose here.

Betting
The Houston Dynamo have only won one away match all season and they haven’t picked up many more draws so it is hard to see them winning this match especially in light of their current form which apart from a recent win or two is not particularly special.
Seattle Sounders saw their winning run end with a couple of defeats recently but they bounced back by thumping the Colorado Rapids last time out and won all three meetings without conceding against the Houston Dynamo last term. I think they will win this too and am happy to take the 0.75 handicap on the home side here.
