The MLS regular season is beginning to wind down but for a number of teams there is still so much to play for so the latest round of matches which begins on Saturday evening is pretty important for many across the competition.
There are plenty of kick off times for the Saturday night matches and a number of ways of following the action, not least on TV where there are three matches live for us in the UK. The usual streams offer a chance to watch the rest.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off in brackets)
New York City FC v San Jose Earthquakes (17.30)
Chicago Fire v FC Dallas (20.30)
Atlanta United FC v Columbus Crew SC (00.00)
Montreal Impact v FC Cincinnati (00.30)
Orlando City SC v New England Revolution (00.30)
Philadelphia Union v Los Angeles Football Club (00.30)
Vancouver Whitecaps vs Houston Dynamo (03.00)
Big Matches
The three televised matches over the course of the night sees Chicago Fire taking on FC Dallas in a match which could be significant for the latter before top spot in the Eastern Conference takes centre stage as Atlanta United will look to stay in the mix when the host Columbus Crew in a match the defending champions need to win to keep their hopes of top spot in their own hands. The final televised offering sees the Vancouver Whitecaps taking on Houston Dynamo in a clash which means little in the overall scheme of things.
Best of the Rest
Elsewhere we have an early kick off at Yankee Stadium where New York City FC welcome the San Jose Earthquakes while Montreal Impact look to have an ideal chance to boost their play-off credentials when they host woeful FC Cincinnati. The match of the night could we’ll come from Philly as the Philadelphia Union take on the Supporters’ Shield chasing Los Angeles FC. Orlando City host New England Revolution in the other game.
Betting
I’ll take two bets in this set of matches with the first coming at Mercedes-Benz Stadium where I like Atlanta United to see off the Columbus Crew in fine style. After taking a while to get up to speed this season, the Five Stripes are going nicely now and are usually too good for most on their own ground. Columbus Crew have been so poor this season that time is running out on their campaign and I am expecting Atlanta to take full advantage of that with a pretty resounding win here.
Montreal Impact are pretty much drinking in the ‘Last Chance Saloon’ when they take on a pretty ordinary FC Cincinnati side. Regular readers might think I’m picking on the bottom team in the East but they’ve been so bad in recent weeks that they have to keep being opposed. Montreal aren’t in the best form and I can’t say I’m massively inspired by the choice of Wilmer Cabrera as manager but they have enough creativity and quality up top to take advantage of this awful Cincinnati side.
