The opening weekend of the new Major League Soccer season concludes with two more matches in the American league on Sunday night, as the champions get their title defence underway, on what should be an entertaining evening of football.
We saw a high scoring, attack loaded first night of the season on Saturday and based on who we have on show on Sunday, we could be forgiven for expecting much more of the same. The first match of the two is live on TV in the UK and then there are the various streams for the other one.
DC United vs Atlanta United (23.00)
The opening match of the evening comes from the Eastern Conference where DC United take on the champions Atlanta United at Audi Field, with both sides looking to make a good start to what they hope will be a title chasing campaign.
I’m expecting both these teams to be very competitive this season. DC United are my ante-post fancies while there was no signs that Atlanta are missing Miguel Almiron when they eased to victory in the NACL in midweek. With that in mind I’m expecting a pretty exciting match it has to be said.
We’ve got some of the best players in MLS on show in this match with Luciano Acosta, Wayne Rooney, Pity Martinez, Josef Martinez and Ezequiel Barco all likely to be on the pitch from the start. Every team scored on Saturday night and if that trend continues here then we’ll only need one on top for over 2.75 goals to land. That looks likely to me.

Los Angeles FC vs Sporting Kansas City (01.30)
The second match of the evening, moving into the early hours of the morning for those of us who are in the UK, is a Western Conference clash between Los Angeles FC and Sporting Kansas City, two more sides who will harbour title hopes this term.
Usually I would expect this to be a really good and tight game. Both their meetings last year were of the highest quality but Sporting KC were involved in the NACL in midweek and have another game in that competition in the week to come so it is unlikely to be a full strength side for them in this match, I guess understandably.
With home advantage and a fit squad to choose from I would have expected LAFC to win this match anyway but considering some big Kansas City players are likely to sit this out and watch I’m even more confident the home side will win, and even at a shade of odds on they look good value.
