MLS 2020 – Wednesday 16th September Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The revamped and rescheduled Major League Soccer season continues on Wednesday night when three matches have been scheduled on a mini card as the competition attempts to get back on track after the Covid-19 enforced stoppage.

The season is starting to pick up speed now with matches coming thick and fast for these teams. We have one of the three matches live on TV in the UK while as always the other two are live on the betting streams so we can see all the action.

FC Dallas vs Colorado Rapids (01.30 – Free Sports)

The opening match of the night comes from the Western Conference where two sides who need to get some form together in order to make the play-offs meet when FC Dallas take on the Colorado Rapids in a game both will feel they can win.

Dallas have a good record on their home patch this season, with their only defeat coming against Nashvills SC in the match after lockdown when they can be forgiven for being a bit rusty. Either side of that they have been very strong. Colorado Rapids haven’t been the best away from home this season but then they went and walloped Real Salt Lake 5-0 on the road at the weekend. That result feels like the freak rather than the norm of what to expect though. Dallas look to be building up a head of steam though and with their squad nicely settled now I expect them to win this.

San Jose Earthquakes vs Portland Timbers (02.30)

The middle match of the night sees two of the entertainers of MLS in action when the San Jose Earthquakes host the Portland Timbers in a match which is naturally pretty big for the home side as they host the MLS is Back champions.

I’ve mentioned it religiously that the Earthquakes are set up to entertain but there was a little bit of a more pragmatic approach in their latest outing against LA Galaxy. That was probably to be expected after getting rampaged 7-1 in the match before but it wasn’t certain that they had it in them so that is an interesting development. The Timbers are never short entertainment themselves but it is a bit of a concern that Sebastian Blanco is out for the season. That makes me ease off backing the overs here but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they land.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs Montreal Impact (02.30)

The final match of the night sees the latest clash between the Canadian teams taking place when the Vancouver Whitecaps host the Montreal Impact for the second time in just a matter of days with the current restrictions meaning that the three teams from Canada can only play each other.

The Impact beat Vancouver 4-2 at the weekend in what was a great match to watch and they will be hoping to pick up a win here to continue their rise up the Eastern Conference table. The Whitecaps are propping up the field in the Western Conference and if they harbour hopes of the play-offs they need to find some consistency pretty soon. There is no doubt in my mind that the Impact are the better of these two teams but consistency isn’t their forte so I’ll give this one a miss.
