We are in the middle of a pretty intense schedule in the Major League Soccer season at the minute and another round of MLS matches begins on Friday night when two teams from the Eastern Conference collide when Inter Miami play host to the New York Red Bulls.
These two sides couldn’t be in more different form heading into this match, one which is bigger for the home team as they chase a place in the top seven, than it is the visitors for whom the end of this season probably can’t come quick enough.
Where to watch
The match will be shown live and in full on the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Football channels. The programme begins at 12am with the match kicking off shortly after.
Inter Miami
This season looked to be going absolutely nowhere in the early stages when Phil Neville struggled to adjust to the league and the team couldn’t maintain any discipline whatsoever, however the second part of the campaign could scarcely have gone any better for Inter Miami. They have now won five of their last six matches and have suffered just the one defeat in their last 11 and are currently charging for a place in the top seven. A win here will move them up to fifth ahead of the rest of the weekend action.
The big change in that time has been their defensive record. They should have a good defensive record with the quality of personnel they have in that department and they will go into this match off the back of four successive clean sheets. That in turn has taken the pressure off them offensively and the whole team is beginning to flourish. With the calibre of players they have right across the park, a confident Inter Miami is a dangerous one.

New York Red Bulls
The form of the New York Red Bulls is almost the exact opposite to that of their opponents here. They have won just one of their last 11 outings and that was only against a Columbus Crew who look a pale shadow of the side which won the MLS Cup last season. They have lost six of their last nine matches and will make the trip to Florida knowing all too well that they have only won one match on the road all season. If they are looking for inspiration then they need to remember that road win was at the other ground in Florida against Orlando City.
Goals are becoming a bit of an issue for the Red Bulls, which is a concern for a side coached by Gerhard Struber. They have only found the back of the net five times in their last seven outings and if their form is going to turn round to the level they need it to then that is something that is going to need to change. They might have two games in hand of Atlanta who are seventh but the Red Bulls will need to sprout wings and fly to make the top seven you sense.
Betting
I like Inter Miami here and I’m actually surprised that we can get as much draw cover on them as we can. I say that because they have won their last five matches at home. The slight doubt is that they were playing in Canada in midweek and that’s a bit of a trip but home comforts can’t be underestimated in this league. New York Red Bulls were away in midweek too so it isn’t like Inter Miami are the only ones having to overcome a midweek trip.
The Red Bulls are struggling everywhere at the minute but they are particularly struggling away from home. Goals are few and far between at the present time for the New York outfit and they might not find them any easier to come by against an Inter Miami defence which has suddenly become very mean. While there is always the potential for this crazy schedule to throw up some unforeseen results I don’t think this will be one. I will air on the side of caution given the schedule but I like Inter Miami in this one.
