Big Matches
The televised action begins quite early on Saturday evening when the current Supporters’ Shield holders Philadelphia Union play host to a surging Atlanta United side who are suddenly becoming dangerous as they bid to get their MLS Cup title back. When the action is done there the TV attention turns to the capital where DC United welcome a struggling FC Cincinnati side. Shortly after that we have the second Hudson River derby in a matter of a few days as New York City FC take on New York Red Bulls before the final TV game comes from north of the border as Vancouver Whitecaps go up against FC Dallas.
Best of the Rest
With Sporting Kansas City and Seattle Sounders not in action on Saturday night there is the chance for the Colorado Rapids to move into top spot in the Western Conference. They take on the Eastern Conference stragglers Toronto FC, while there is a big game in the race for the top seven in the West when the Portland Timbers host Real Salt Lake. The Eastern Conference leaders New England Revolution will look to take another step towards winning the Supporters’ Shield when they host Orlando City SC while the reigning champions Columbus Crew host CF Montreal in a game the home side really have to win.
Betting
There is one bet that I like over the course of the evening and it comes from Denver where the Colorado Rapids go in search of top spot in the Western Conference for a few hours at least. They host Toronto FC who have picked up just seven points from a possible 42 on their travels and have lost their last five road matches. The two wins they have picked up this season were during the time when they were based in America so it appears the longer travel isn’t helping them any. They have conceded 35 goals in their 14 away games this season too.
There are no such problems for Colorado Rapids. Critics would argue that they are struggling to win matches having drawn their last three outings but they have been against LA Galaxy, Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps who are all better than this Toronto side or are in better form than them. The Rapids lost their opening home match of the season but they haven’t lost on home turf since then and haven’t been beaten anywhere in their last 10 matches. They look a much better side than Toronto and can ease to a win here.
