MLS 2021 – Wednesday 22nd September Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Major League Soccer season continues on Wednesday evening when three matches from the Eastern Conference takes place on what could be a pivotal night of football for at least a couple of the clubs involved.

One of the three matches will be live on the TV for us in the UK to enjoy while the other two will be able to be watched with the bookmaker streaming services. With all three matches coming from the Eastern Conference they are at relatively watchable times which is handy.

Inter Miami vs Nashville SC (00.30)

The first match to kick off on Wednesday comes from Florida where Inter Miami will look to make up for their embarrassing heavy loss to the New York Red Bulls when they host a Nashville SC side who will be all about peaking for a tilt at the MLS Cup title.

Both these sides actually go into the match off the back of defeats because Nashville SC were beaten at Toronto FC. That came the day after Miami were thrashed by the Red Bulls so it might be that the home side have a bit of an advantage here, although they had to play a long period of that game with 10 men in what looked like testing conditions with the Floridian heat and humidity, which might counter that. If everything was equal I’d probably take the visitors here but that defeat at the weekend is enough to put me off.

Chicago Fire vs New England Revolution (01.00 – Free Sports)

The televised offering on Wednesday sees the Chicago Fire finally heading back to Soldier Field after a run of six consecutive away matches. They have a date with the leaders New England Revolution in their first home game since August 16.

The Fire head into this match off the back of five defeats in their last six matches and although that is terrible form, we do need to cut them some slack given that they were all away from home. More of a concern is that in four of the last five of those outings they failed to score a goal. The Revolution head to Chicago off the back of one loss in their last 13 matches and five wins in six on the road. The Supporters’ Shield looks like it is theirs to lose and in truth they look a country mile ahead of anything in the Eastern Conference. Although Chicago’s recent form has all been on the road, I still think they are up against it here and I would expect the Revolution to have more than enough about them to get the job done in this one.

New York Red Bulls vs New York City FC (01.00)

The other match on Wednesday evening is the first of two Hudson River derbies which take place this week as the New York Red Bulls, fresh off that emphatic win in Miami on Friday evening, take on New York City FC, who although they sit third in the table at the minute are anything but guaranteed of their play-off place.

The Red Bulls have generally been a poor team this season but they looked a good side in Miami on Friday night and you fancy they’ll need to be at their best here to deny New York City FC who still have plenty to play for. In the main the Red Bulls are acceptable at home and they’ll need to be here if they are going to launch a late charge for the postseason. New York City have lost half of their away games this season but have played a number of home matches at the Red Bull Arena so they’ll know this pitch well. I think this derby is one to watch rather than get involved in from a betting point of view.
