The last matches in the MLS 2021 regular season prior to ‘Decision Day’ on Sunday take place on Wednesday evening when a number of sides go in search of either enhancing their postseason claims or pushing for a home playoff match.
Four fixtures made up a select card on Wednesday with two of them live on the TV for us in the UK to enjoy and then as always those and the other two matches will be available live and in full on the streaming service provided by the bookmakers.

Preview
There are huge playoff implications in the two TV games on Wednesday evening. They begin in the Eastern Conference where seventh hosts sixth in a match between New York Red Bulls and Atlanta United in one which whoever loses will give themselves work to do to make the playoffs at the weekend. The second TV game comes from the Western Conference when Real Salt Lake will look to go from outside the playoffs up to fifth and be in control of their own destiny at the weekend. They take on the Portland Timbers who will secure a home match in the first round of the playoffs with a win.
The other two matches carry significance as well. In the first of those CF Montreal will look to keep their season alive when they play host to a Houston Dynamo team who should be the perfect dance partner given the Canadians’ need to win. The other match could see Sporting Kansas City controlling their own destiny when it comes to the number one see in the Western Conference. They will have that if they can head to Austin FC and win the game.
Betting
I’ll go with just the one bet over the course of the evening. That comes in the first match to kick off when CF Montreal welcome the Houston Dynamo to Saputo Stadium. Montreal have to win this match if they want to keep their season alive. It will then leave them in control of their own destiny on Sunday and that is all they can ask for at this stage of proceedings. Houston should be the ideal opponent because this is their final match of the season, they have long since been out of playoff contention and they haven’t won a single match on their travels.
Dynamo head to Montreal having lost four of their last five and offering very little on the road so the Canadians couldn’t have asked for a better opponent here. Since May, only the current leaders of the Eastern Conference and the team that are third have won in Montreal and Houston are nowhere near as good as New England or Nashville. I expect Montreal to win this match and if they get in front early they might well run up the score in case goal difference becomes important on Sunday.
