Another weekend of action in the new MLS 2022 season begins on Saturday evening when most of the teams take to the pitch again for what will be their third match of the fledgling campaign but still one which might yield some clues to the year ahead.

Big Matches

The televised action on Saturday evening begins in Florida where the weather has been terrible this weekend. Inter Miami will look to prosper despite the conditions when they take on Los Angeles FC before two of the marquee sides in the Western Conference meet when the Seattle Sounders play host to the LA Galaxy. The TV action then remains in the Western Conference for the clash between Houston Dynamo and Vancouver Whitecaps before the Supporters’ Shield holders New England Revolution will look to show their 2022 quality when they host Real Salt Lake. The final TV game sees the MLS Cup 2021 finalists Portland Timbers hosting an Austin FC side who have started the season on fire.

Best of the Rest

The champions New York City FC open up the evening when they play host to CF Montreal at Yankee Stadium while the team they took the title off are next on show as Columbus Crew meet Toronto FC. Two Eastern Conference sides who will be looking to make progress this term are DC United and Chicago Fire and they meet at Audi Field. Orlando City and FC Cincinnati haven’t started the season how they would like so they will be eager to beat each other while Philadelphia Union against San Jose Earthquakes could be the most entertaining match of the evening. The other games see FC Dallas hosting Nashville SC and Colorado Rapids taking on Sporting Kansas City.

Betting

While we still assess the runners and riders in the competition this season I’ll go with the one bet which comes in the form of goals in the match between the Philadelphia Union and the San Jose Earthquakes where I’m surprised the line is only 2.5 goals given that there aren’t many San Jose Earthquakes matches that are low scoring but Philadelphia Union can certainly match it in the goal department as well when they need to.

Both matches involving the San Jose Earthquakes this season have been typically chaotic while the Philadelphia Union have been involved in a couple of great games of football too. It is the DNA of both teams to look to get the ball into the front men and score goals and they are both guilty of leaving themselves open in order to do that as well. If this match was in a few weeks I feel certain the goal line would be much higher than this but for now I’m definitely happy to get on a 2.5 line.
