Big Matches
The televised action begins right from the off when the Philadelphia Union play host to the Minnesota United in an entertaining season opener. When they are done the Western Conference table toppers from last season get to show off their 2022 credentials when Colorado Rapids head over to Los Angeles FC. It might be a different year but that doesn’t mean Sky won’t show Inter Miami games! They start their season with a game against Chicago Fire while the televised action concludes in California where the San Jose Earthquakes host the New York Red Bulls in what should be a decent match.
The Rest
That leaves five matches which will need to be watched on the bookmaker streams for those who want to watch them. The 2020 champions Columbus Crew are in action in one of them when they take on the Vancouver Whitecaps before FC Dallas meet one of our pre-season outright picks in Toronto FC, with the Bob Bradley era in Canada beginning in that match. Two of last season’s strugglers open their season against each other when Austin FC host FC Cincinnati while the other two matches sees DC United taking on the new boys Charlotte FC and the beaten MLS Cup finalists Portland Timbers opening their campaign against the Supporters’ Shield holders New England Revolution.
Betting
One of the more entertaining matches on the opening weekend of the season should come at Audi Field where two coaches who like their sides to play open, expansive football meet as DC United host the newcomers to the league in the form of Charlotte FC. There wasn’t a team whose matches last season had more goals in them than those that DC United were a part of and given the transition they continue to make that isn’t a trend I expect to slow down, especially should Edinson Flores show the class he has after a quiet first season in the capital.
Miguel Angel Ramirez is renowned for playing an open 4-3-3 formation with two number eights who get about the pitch rather than two sixes with one joining the attack. This will put pressure on the Charlotte FC defence but it does give them a chance of competing in a league where you might as well not bother if you don’t have goals in your ranks. Charlotte will be motivated to show their worth as soon as possible so even on the road in this first game I expect them to take the game to their opponents. We won’t get many matches that feature either of these two which carries a 2.5 goal line for long this term. I’ll take the over while I can.
