The MLS weekend concludes with a couple of matches on Sunday evening as we head into the international break for most sides. We go there with two of the biggest names in the sport on this side of the pond on show along with a couple of tidy relative newcomers.
Both of these matches are live on TV for those who want another MLS fix this weekend, although it has to be said if you are watching in the UK you will need to be something of a night owl to be able to watch the second game.
LA Galaxy vs Austin FC (23.00 – Sky Football)
The opening match of the night sees two of the top six meeting when LA Galaxy play host to Austin FC in a contest which could tell us a lot about the credentials of both these teams moving forward for the remainder of the season.
LA Galaxy carried a lot of expectation into this season with them with the signings they made in the winter but while they are sitting in sixth place in the table, I don’t think we’ve seen them at anything near their best. That is in contrast to Austin FC for whom there has been a lot to like this season. A win here will move them up to second in the table and with three wins from their opening six away games you certainly couldn’t rule it out. I wouldn’t put anyone off backing Austin FC necessarily but surely the real LA Galaxy is going to stand up and show their worth eventually. This might be the time it happens with them having no game for two weeks. I’ll tentatively leave this one alone.

Seattle Sounders vs Charlotte FC (01.30 – Free Sports)
The final match of the weekend comes from Lumen Field where the Seattle Sounders will be looking to climb up the Western Conference table when they play host to Charlotte FC who are making a pretty decent fist of it in their first season in the league.
Charlotte are midway in the Eastern Conference which is certainly nothing to be sniffed at, especially when you look at the status of some of the teams who currently sit below them in the table. Seattle are much lower than they would like to be in the Western Conference but as we have said a few times a lot of that is down to their participation in the Champions League and the aftermath of winning it. I’ve also mentioned recently that I expect Seattle to come good in MLS now and particularly on home turf where they are always tough to beat. For all that Charlotte have begun life in MLS with credit, they only have one win in six on their travels. Seattle have a decent home record when they have had their first team out and I expect them to win this and win it with a bit in hand.
